McDonald's Salad Contains More Fat Than Its Cheeseburger
<snip>

LONDON (Reuters) - Global hamburger giant McDonald's latest line in healthy looking salads may contain more fat than its hamburgers, according to the company's Web Site.

McDonald's, plagued by health critics and flattening sales, has launched the biggest change to its menu in 30 years with its plans to get into the multi-million pound prepared salad market.

"You can choose your salad, topping and dressing. You can mix and match to suit your diet and lifestyle," said a McDonald's spokeswoman.

However, consumers hoping to lose weight by switching from burgers to salads may be disappointed, according to the Interactive Nutrition Counter on the McDonald's Web site.

1. Yes, but
not all fats are created equal.

Beef contains saturated fat, while a salad dressed with olive oil has monounsaturated fats, which are considerably healthier.

2. Ask for vinaigrette dressing with your salad.

3. And also avoid the crispy/fried chicken,
if you want a healthy salad.

4. They probably have more meat in them too

:bounce:

Seriously you can't even see the meat in a McD's hamburger or cheeseburger. You just have to close your eyes and take a bite of faith.

My wife actually got a hamburger from a McD's once that had no meat in it, just ketchup mustard and pickles. She was too tired to go back and complain. ON EDIT-I guess someone skipped a step in the "manufacturing" process.

6. Oh haven't I told you this story?
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 02:08 PM by underpants
A couple of years ago my wife and I were going to her folks to plan our wedding and we stopped at a McD's on a rural highway. I order what I wanted and she wanted the #2 (Cheeseburger fries and coke) except with no cheese, she likes hamburgers. So I ask the disembodied voice coming from the box if we can have a #2 but with no cheese, thank you.

Here is what came out of the box: "I'm sorry sir but if we take off the cheese they are hamburgers"

White knuckled rage was apparent as my body siezed up ready to impart a stream of negative and probably mean statements. My wife's hand grabbed me, "No" she said "don't piss off the fast food people".

I didn't. We paid and extra 80 cents or so becasue we had to order seperately. We were cracking up over it the whole way-Imagine a MCD's auditor coming in "Now sir we see that you have 2 extra slices of cheese on your inventory than you should...."

I like their cheeseburgers too but the Egg McMuffin is the single greatest food invention ever (I know it's eggs Benedict with out the Hoolandaise sauce and in sandwich form) and I don't care who knows it.

8. The salad is big enough that it can be the meal
With a cheeseburger, you'll usually want another sandwich, fries, or dessert which brings your total fat higher than the salad.

9. Exactly. One cheezburger is so much smaller than a salad.
What really pissed me off though about Mccy D's was that salad in a cup they used to have. That was disgusting.

11. The BLT salad with grilled chicken is pretty good.
But I haven't eaten at Rotten Ronnie's for months now.
