Walter Cronkite remembers Edward R Murrow's "See It Now" about Sen Joseph McCarthy. "All Things Considered" this afternoon, starting at 4PM EST.

A giant remembering another giant. I to think what the Fourth Estate has become.

Fifty years ago today, one of the most influential news broadcasts in history aired. The report, part of Edward R. Murrow's See It Now series, dealt with Sen. Joseph McCarthy's accusations that many in government and the media were Communist dupes. Legendary journalist Walter Cronkite recalls the occasion as the night network television shook off its timidity and called the bluff of a bully.

1. There are plenty who would do it to propel their career.

The question is whether a broadcast journalist with a solid record and established presence would put their career on the line to take this type of measure. To this, I put the odds at about 50/50.
