Why should I start watching baseball again after 15 years
I gave up on baseball in the early '90s era of steroids and cheap homers. Players hitting .250 making millions. Owners worth billions threatening to leave town if they weren't given bigger stadiums and more concession cuts and lower rents.
It just wasn't the same game I grew up with. I know the 50s, 60s and 70s had their problems treating players like chattel, but it at least felt more like a game than it does today. Now it feels like a business meeting, with each player a separate company.
And the games take so incredibly long. My attention span for any game is about three hours tops. Baseball used to get a game in in about 2.5 hours or less. Now they seldom end before 3.5 hours. Except on travel days. Oh and the end of the season. End of the season and 2 non-contenders can snap a game out in about an hour.
I spent most of my youth listening with a radio always at the ready. Always had a game on. Minnesota, the Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, Royals. On a good night I could get Boston, Atlanta, Yankees, Mets and Tigers. Who cared who was on? It was baseball!
Now I would turn on a baseball game only as a last resort.
