Amazing - I just got home from a mall that has NO bookstore
I didn't think there was such a thing. I had to go to Valley Fair in San Jose to get the hand lotion I like (Crabtree & Evelyn Gardener's Therapy - the only Crabtree around here is at Valley Fair). Thought I'd browse in the bookstore as well.

250 stores and not one bookstore. :wow:

3. But there's not ANY bookstore in this one
I didn't expect anything other than a Border's or Barnes & Noble - I thought there was a Border's or Barnes & Noble in every mall. But then again, I avoid malls like the plague so what do I know?

7. I buy every time I walk into a bookstore
Usually to the tune of $50 or $60. So it's probably just as well that there wasn't one - it just really surprised me.

8. that's the truth
If I go to a mall with some money in my pocket, I usually look at clothes, don't find anything with enough quality to spend my money on, and spend the dough at the bookstore. Just like you. Usually $50-100. And I could spend several hundreds there each time if wallet allowed.

So malls oughta consider this!

10. There used to be a Waldenbooks in the mall where I work
Now we're lucky to have a calendar kiosk.

Although, it's in the middle of strip mall central and there are a Half Price and a Border's within a couple miles.

11. In my home county in Pennsylvania -
the whole county - there is ONE bookstore in the whole area.

ONE.

And it's a shoddy little Brentano's. Lots of Christian books.

I learned this ten years ago. I am still aghast........................

12. In the little Vermont town I come from, I can think of 5 bookstores
right off the top of my head. And none of them are chains, which is pretty cool.

Yet in a major mall in a city of about a million people, not one. :banghead:

... but that's because there's a Borders right across the street. Next to my work. :)

18. The Waldenbooks in the mall nearby closed recently.
I was shocked. Thankfully, there's a used bookstore nearby that I'd already been patronizing. Still had to drive a few miles to Borders for the recent release I'd been looking for.

19. I drive out of my way to patronize small indie bookstores. At Christmas time, they get my dollar.
The chains will blow out of town at the first sign of a "downturn" in sales, and little indies seem to work harder to stay in business.

I'm surprised that you haven't encountered them before. For a book junkie like me, it is really frustrating

23. to many readers ordering books online?
I must admit that I get most of my books online , but I don't think I have ever walked into a bookstore and not bought anything.

I have noticed a few teens I know who are reading . The kid next door just finished To Kill a Mockingbird and she was really excited that I had read it and could discuss it with her.

Maybe there is hope for the young people!! Maybe bookstores will make a come back!

I order online because I am old and it is convenient:think:
