Is it okay to call females "Dude"?

This morning on Howard Stern, some of the clowns there were saying this was absolutely disgraceful, but I know in college it was okay to call females "dude" and they didn't seem to take offense.

What is your verdict?

My 12 year old daughter and her friends use the word "Dude" at the beginning of pretty much every sentence they say
