Really interesting link - do you have unclaimed money sitting out there?
This is kind of interesting. NBC's Dateline either did or will shortly air a piece on unclaimed money. Apparently each state has a database you can search. I tried it but didn't find anything for myself or my wife, but there were people with our names in other parts of the state that came up. You can get to all of them through http://www.unclaimed.org/ - give it a whirl - you never know. It takes you directly to the treasury department page for each state, so it isn't a gimmick, although the article said people are mining it to try and scam people for "recovery fees".

1. My Mom collected a utility deposit or something owed to my late Grandmother via one of those sites.

6. Yeah, sure. Then they tell you to come collect it at the armory and...
when you arrive you find thousands of other people thinking they're coming to collect money owed them only to have the doors locked and warrants served on your sorry asses.

Been there. Done that.

7. Thank you for posting that link
I checked my name and actually found that I was owed some money. I submitted the claim form and we'll see what happens. There was no amount listed, so if it comes through it will be found money.

9. Over the past year or two I've had fun finding money for people
I put in names of old friends who moved, a cousin who moved, a cousin whose mom died and some money was in her name, older people I had known 15 ago who died and their heirs didn't know about some money that had been held by the state because the owner couldn't be located.

I have looked up treasurer/controller websites of a few states- I didn't know that there was centralized route to get there- thanks for posting it!
