another sore spot, but the short version, the school told me they couldn't make the accommodations he needs without an IEP for autism, after much battling, we finally got the ed. dx, but we are still butting heads over details of the plan (they don't want my autism specialists input and they are offering an EBD specialist instead, never going to happen)....

long story short, because he has an IEP, they didn't have room for him at any of the other schools I applied to under open enrollment (special ed funding is always the first to go :( )

We've all had crappy art teachers who were rigid and unimaginative, and squelched our creativity.

When I was little, I grabbed a crayon with a death grip and couldn't draw inside the lines.

However, I could draw fabulous cartoons freehand with a great energy of line, but they didn't care about that. That wasn't conformist enough. :grr: :banghead: :wtf:

Fortunately I had a good art teacher in junior high. She taught everyone how to do a good landscape (mountains, pine trees, waterfalls) in oil pastels so we would have something to take home and show to mama.

Three of us out of 30% came up with our own projects to do after we finished the regular work, and she encouraged us.

That is where I got hooked on Art Nouveau/Fillmore posters and dayglo paint. I loved doing those and she encouraged it.
