I have a mild sore throat and the sniffles.
What level of panic should I be at?

1. I have been sneezing all day
until fever sets in I am not planning on panicking. I have had the flu so many times.

3. Well, I know I don't have a fever. My joints start achin' the minute
my immune system even begins pondering raising my temperature.

So, I believe I'll put off panicking for a bit.

2. 0 panic... rest, fluids, rest, fluids, and pain relief
if fever for more than 24 hrs, call doc (over 101)

tamiflu has shown efficacy toward virus

but isolate self from others, if others are around, don't sneeze on them or touch them.

have them wash hands well or use purell

it is droplet passed, hence contact isolation not airborne isolation requiring an N95 mask or any kind of respirator. you could wear a mask or they could, just a dust mask or medical mask

4. No fever, no aches. I think the sniffles are allergies, and the
throat thing is from drainage from the nose/allergy issue.

9. Benadryl could be diagnostic
Edited on Sun May-03-09 12:04 AM by DeepBlueC
If it works, allergy is the problem, if not...it's something else, maybe just a cold. I hope the Benadryl works for you. It helps some people sleep.

16. I second that, Odin.

If we're talking allergies,
Claritin D is the way to go.

13. If I think I am getting the flu I take this stuff, it is over the counter.
Oscillococcinum

The website is www.oscillo.com

It is a homeopathic medicine.

It doesn't take the place of a Doctor.

Get thee to a doctor if it gets worse, pronto.

Tamiflu and the like only work in the first 48 hours.
( I believe it's 48 hours)

I hope you feel better soon, Critters.

17. KILLER FLU!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGG!!!!!11!!!!

step 1: Panic.

step 2: Cry to god in anguish welling "Why me?!"

step 3: Study the Kubler-Ross stages of grief so you recognize them when they happen.

step 4: Make a same-day appointment with the doc so that if it is flu and not just allergies or a head cold, you can get started on the anti-viral meds while the effective window is still open.

step 5: consume a hot, brothy preparation perhaps made from fowl.

step 6: recline on the sofa watching cable TV.
