Is it wrong to post stuff and take the responses the wrong way??

quite a few times I've posted things, and the responses to what I've posted have been sometimes down right nasty......and I don't care for it at all.

I hear you...the same thing has happened to me, and to most of us, I think.

You are entitled to whatever response you have. Feelings cannot be ordered, nor are they wrong.

If you are upset at the unpleasant, nasty responses, you can always alert on them. If they're personal attacks, then for sure do it.

I've had a number of those lately, and alerting seems to help.

Good luck, and also, try to grow a thicker skin. I'm doing that too, and it helps.

3. The problem I always have is that, even with emoticons, responses lack emotional context

Sincere? Snarky? Hostile? Who knows?

Zig Ziglar has an exercise about the dangers of the written word, which is especially applicable to e-mail. Take this sentence as an example:

"I didn't say he stole the money"

What does that mean? In writing, it's unclear. Spoken emphasis on any given word changes the entire meaning of the statement.

5. I'll add just one thing to the good advice you've already gotten

Sometimes some people just don't seem to read and comprehend the words you write. I don't know if it's because they're having a bad day and looking for a fight, or if they have some sort of reading problem, or what. For example, if you post "I don't like pears" there's a surprisingly good chance some pugnacious jerk is going to demand why the hell you don't like fruit.

I don't often make OP's, but it seems half the time I do I wind up having to repeat what I've already plainly said, and half of those times it's to no avail anyway. Frustrating.
