Even when you get the headache under control, do you still feel lousy?

I woke up with headaches both days this weekend, took my meds and got rid of the pain. But afterwards I felt like I'd been hit by a train... tired, no strength, no energy.

I'm not looking for medical advice, just wondering if my experience is common.

Yes, she feels the same after the meds work. I call it her hangover.

I dont get 'real' migranes but I do get the headache from hell pretty regularly and even if I pop enough pain killers all I want to do is lay down all day. But the Excedrin Migrane wont let me sleep so I just lay there with no energy but cant fall asleep.

That's what's in Excedrin Migraine. You might want to try a cup of tea instead for a milder shot.

Prescription strength acetaminophen, and a small, small dose of a narcotic (I don't know which one)

I take a daily medication for migraines (Topamamx), but if I have one break through and have to take medication like vicodin or even the furocet (sp?) to control the pain then I feel like crap the next day.

5. I feel a little moribund for a little while.

Then, when I start to feel better, it is like a rebirth. I don't think I really am THAT much better than before I got the migraine, but I just feel so much better than WHEN I had it, I become almost elated. Maybe that is me just telling myself "yeah, you don't have a migraine anymore".

6. Mr. AAL's are like that

Mine are not as bad, but considering his comes from Mild Traumatic Brain Injury suffered during his time in Iraq, mine should be milder.

If he gets one, he's usually bedridden for the day even after takig some pretty powerful meds. I usually need a power nap after the medication kicks in and then I'm fine.

7. It feels like a hangover

I think part of it is from the meds and part of it is the leftover from the headache. It's usually about 24 hours after the migraine is gone before I start feeling normal again.

And I can no longer afford the real migraine meds that abort the headache.

9. Yep,

meds, no meds, doesn't matter. The day after you feel as if you've been been in a bad fight with a BIG horse, and lost. On the other hand, as someone upthread has stated, compared to how you felt during the migraine, you're elated to be so much better.

For myself, I find the cure to that is sleep. Unfortunately, if you have to work that day, you can't sleep.

10. Shit at and missed. Shot at and hit.

I feel like death warmed over for about a day and a half after a migraine finally goes away.

12. Even if the pain is controlled, I feel like the front quarter of my brain

is asleep. It's weird because it actually feels like that part is numb. I don't get aura, and I don't get the visual blocking out that some people get, but during a migraine I have to pay attention to things to my left. I don't lose my left field of vision, but I don't pay attention to it unless I make the effort.
