Bah! Gotta bring my VW beetle to the shop.....

The brakes started feeling mushy a week ago, and now (at times) the pedal will sink to the floor. No leaks that I can see, and the reservoir is full. I know that the whole shebang was re-furbed not too long ago so I'm kinda guessing that either a master or wheel cylinder is bad (I don't think those were replaced).

I'd do it myself, but I just don't have the time right now and I hear the shop that I use is hurting a little. They're great, and I'd hate to see them go out of business.

I really enjoy working on older cars. I am looking for a project right now actually, I am considering an old 911.

I just don't have the time to do it right now.

And old air-cooled VWs are great because the parts are so damned cheap. How many cars out there can you drop a brand spanking new engine into for a couple thou (less if you do the work yourself)?

BTW- an old 911? Killer! Once Heidi (the beetle) is finished, I might do that myself.

3. Master cylinder prolly.

A wheel cylinder would be leaking with those symptoms.

Especially considering that the pressure builds right back up with a light "pumping" of the pedal.

I'm going to have to look back at the old receipts and see what all was replaced/refurbed with that brake job.

6. Ha!!! Actually, she IS going to have a tranny overhaul soon....

which is something that I'm not going to attempt myself. I've already budgeted for it- in the grand scheme of things, it isn't TOO bad- about $1500 bucks.

7. I'm really considering getting an old VW to mess 'round with.

Once I get a place with a garage or carport that is. The apartment folks might get a tad upset if I had my car in bits all over their parking lot.
