1. My dear struggle4progress!
I was a girl...still am, actually.

And they wanted a boy.

Actually, that is true. But they did want to have two children, and so they did.

:hi:

3. I answered #2 because....
I am the youngest of 5...
and all other options were geared toward oldest siblings.

I'm the youngest among my siblings, and I'm here to poop on your parade! :D

4. My parents were/are honest about it: they wanted a reason to continue if something happened to me.
Edited on Thu May-07-09 01:41 AM by BlueIris
So they had my little sister.

Also, they liked being parents and wanted another child to enjoy raising. But I think it was mostly that first thing. And they aren't the only couple I've talked to who copped to having had an additional child/children primarily for that reason.

If I ever choose to have kid(s), I'll either have a second one or pursue a foster/adoption scenario to have a second one. Because I want my firstborn (first adopted? it might go that way) to have the personality of a child who grew up with a sibling. I realize that all children have their own individual personality challenges regardless of birth order or the presence of siblings, but I cannot stand only children. (My apologies to the only children of DU or parents of on this site.) And don't bother to flame me or ask why.

5. Because my goofy parents thought having another would save their marriage.
Divine freakin' intervention couldn't have saved their marriage. :eyes:

10. Decades ago, there was a magarine commercial with punchline "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature"
Edited on Thu May-07-09 02:10 AM by struggle4progress
But nobody ever seems to notice how devious and manipulative Good Mother Nature is, in her efforts to produce a new generation of hapless earthlings. It's a really good thing, too, because if people really knew what they were doing, lots of great folk would never have been born

Thirty years ago, a friend of mine was smitten by a lunatic: I tried to talk him out of marrying her, to no avail. It was a miserable marriage, that finally ended very badly, with ugly feelings all around. They had a daughter: she is one of the most charming and engaging people I have ever had the privilege to know. Did I give my friend good advice thirty years ago? Well, yes, but in a way the world's a better place because he didn't listen

6. I'm sure my sisters and I were kidnapped from a Royal Family.
The Kennedys, or perhaps the Wellstones or the MacGoverns. Surely my staunch Republican parents could not have spawned three raging liberals by themselves.

14. I have siblings because we failed
to kill each other when we were kids.

I don't know how that happened.

It wasn't for lack of trying, at times.

And they were foolish enough to make two more, even after having me. :silly:

23. In my vain search for witticism, it was either that or some comment about how you started
falling apart even before you were born. But internet posts don't show crinkly smiling eyes, so I thought I'd better go the "Buy one, get one free route"

28. My mom and dad wanted a large family but they didn't have enough money to buy one.
And for what it's worth, the rhythm method doesn't work for couples who have no inhibitions about nudity.

My mom was breastfeeding kids in public places forty to fifty years ago.

Artists... what can you say?
