HTML programmers: Cell Padding

I am actually making a wiki, but I think the same principle would apply to HTML coding.

Has anyone ever run into a situation where a table's cellpadding attribute is being ignored?
All the other table attribute commands are working.

Things work better in strict.
padding is respect there in css across browsers

Cellpadding has always worked for me, but it could be a span with none wrapping it that's the problem. Put the table at the very top of your page and test.

5. Generally most CSS works in all browsers - well, other than IE if you can even CALL that a browser.

It would help to have some more information - as in "what are you trying to do?"

The problem is that the cellpadding value is ignored, and zero cellpadding is applied.

9. I'm not positive, but I think that's been somewhat depricated.

Try something like

table {border-collapse: separate;}
td {border: 1px; padding 4px;}

The border-spacing property might also help you out.

It is a little hard to tell what the problem is without seeing the symptoms. Are you using straight HTML or HTML with CSS?

12. Interesting thing.

I registered for the Wikimedia.org forum to post a question on wiki table cellpadding. In my question I included the table code, and it looked perfect on the forum page. There must be some kind of setting in our workplace's environment that is causing the cellpadding feature to be disabled.

11. use firefox with the firebug plugin.

then right click on the cell and choose 'inspect element'. You will be able to look at the css rules being applied (attributes are translated into css rules). This is probably your best bet for figuring out what is wrong.

You may be getting stomped by an !important tag somewhere along the line.
