If I were grilling hamburgers - how do you want yours done and what do you want on it
Just want to see how elitist we are.

Me - I want a Medium Rare burger (venison burger if you have it). Season with garlic and put 2 slices of American Cheese on it. Finish it off with ketchup and a multi-grain roll. If I want Lettuce & Tomato I would have asked for a salad on the side.

Yesterday, I ate with some parishioners at a place that had the best grilled Gardenbuger with sauteed onions, peppers and mushrooms. Tasty! If you could do that, I'd be grateful!

How elitist does that make me?

Speaking of gardenburgers, I'm trying to cut down on red meat. Which products would you recommend?
I'm a true carnivore, but don't like anything too spicy (by spicy, I mean I don't even like black pepper). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

5. My request:
First, the burger should be made with coarsely-ground chuck, and handled as little as possible to form the patty. Seasoned liberally with salt and pepper. Grilled to medium rare. A slice of Colby-Jack added in the last minute or so of cooking.

Toasted onion roll split open to serve as the bun. A light spread of Hellmans mayo on both sides. On top of the patty, a thick slice of creole tomato, a ring or two of red onion, FRESH lettuce (wilty stuff is useless), and a little yellow mustard.

Hold the pickles- I'm not a big fan.

Medium burger with a little bit of garlic oil, pepper, a TINY dash of worcestershire and a bit of salt gently mixed into the meat beforehand. Grill it over hot coals with two or three chips of damp hickory or mesquite wood to add a hint of smoke flavor. When it's done, slide it onto a plate and cover it with two small crisp pieces of bacon and a nice slice of sharp white cheddar. Let the cheese melt while preparing the soft, lightly-toasted bakery bun, spread with a little dijon mustard on one side, and a VERY thin layer of mayonnaise on the other. For further toppings, I want some sauteed mushroom slices and an ice-cold, very-lightly-salted, thin slice of a ripe beefsteak tomato.

Muuuuah! Perfecto.

12. BEEF, 15% fat, medium rare to medium
grilled over WOOD. Salt, maybe a thick slice of crisp, cold, sweet onion but if the beef is good and cooked right all it needs is salt. Cheese if it is dry (too lean), lots of choices - american, medium cheddar, jack, swiss, pepper jack, hell even feta!

I was grilling massive beef patties to go on these really large buns I had whan my wife brought out a package of hot links. I thought hmmm, why not, split them down the middle and grilled them face down and popped them on top of the burgers. Topped with some Woody's bbq sauce....now that's good eatin' ;)

Please use a prime grind of meat...I like mine custom grilled..well-done
but not a hockey puck...semi-thick slice of fresh yellow onion..thin slice of
cheddar cheese, a leaf or two of lettuce and that's about it. The juicy should
take place of condiments...but, if I must...either a bit of yellow mustard
or a spicy but never sweet mustard.

Now here is where it is important...I like a thin..not too bready a bun or NO bun.
No fries, chips or salads.
May I have a big glass of iced tea...could you please have some skim milk available
for my tea.

we have a market here that sells Hawaiian BBQ ribs crosscut and the meat is packaged with those seasonings, marinating in them if you will. Not sure what mixture is, but it sounds like what you're talking about. they are so kick ass, ohhhhh...(drool). :rofl:

Sometimes, I use mustard. Sometimes, I don't. I kind of like mustard, but the only pickles I ever like are sweet salad cubes in deviled eggs, but not on a burger.

43. Medium rare to medium. Cheese (American, Cheddar, Provolone or pepper Jack)...
Toasted bun with a thin smear of mayo. If I'm in the mood, maybe some barbecue sauce and/or bacon. Likewise, if I'm in the mood, mustard.

I would not have the mustard and bbq sauce at the same time, though.

My current favorite burger is served at a local place - it's coated in crushed black pepper and topped with cheese and the restaurant's own sauce.

goes back to a long trip on my first boat, the Euphoria. We had run into some very rough weather crossing the Mona Passage between Hispaniola and Puerto Rico and broke our bow sprit. The ice in our box had melted, and we were doing the canned-food-and-peanut-butter diet. The vision of a piping hot cheeseburger kept popping into my mind. We limped up the Sir Francis Drake Channel and into Roadtown on the island of Tortola, where a brand-new marina and bar sat on the end of the dock, like a mirage. We secured the boat, kissed the ground, and headed for the restaurant. To our amazement, we were offered a menu that featured an American cheeseburger and pina coladas. Now these were the the days when supplies in that part of the world were rather scarce-when horsemeat was more plentiful than ground beef in the tiny stores of the Third World. Anyway, we gave particular instructions to the waiter on how we wanted them cooked and what we wanted on them-to which little attention was paid. It didn't matter. The overdone burgers on the burned, toasted buns tasted like manna from heaven, for they were the realization of my fantasy burgers on the trip. That's the true story. I've heard other people and places claim that I stopped or cooked in their restaurants, but this is the way it happened. I love to eat and have taken advantage of my success to travel and discover the foods of the world. There are elegant restaurants and out-of-the-way seafood joints and tiny Thai hamlets that spring into my mind when people ask where I like to eat, but that is another book. I don't eat much meat as I once did, and I now treat a cheeseburger as a treat rather than a ration. So when the urge hits me to have a burger, I try to match my desire to splurge with the right town and the right burger. I'm sure you know a place in your hometown where you believe they make the best cheeseburger in the world. These are the places I have visited personally when I was trying to come up with the perfect cheeseburger for Margaritaville in Key west. These are my cheeseburger roots.

52. Work in a couple of tablespoons of Woody's Cook-In sauce to some ground sirloin.
Cook over mesquite until medium. When almost ready, melt a thick slice of extra sharp cheddar over it.

Serve on a whole wheat bun w/ Hellman's, Grey Poupon dijon, grilled onions, crunchy dill slices, lettuce and tomato slices.

Pile some Heinz on the side for dipping as you go.

american cheese or provolone would be fine...lettuce is fine but not necessary, oh, and I happen to like mustard AND ketchup on mine! No multi-grain roll, thank you ( I don't care for that ) just a regular old bun

Agreed on the bun. If I wanted to eat healthy, I'd chew on a cardboard box dipped in multivitamins...Tastes about the same as health food. :P

A) crumbled bleu cheese, fried and breaded union strings, and bacon.

B) mix the ground beef with some onion soup mix before grilling, then ketchup, mayo, a slice of cheese (American, chedder, or colby-jack), and a couple of slices of bacon.


Poppy seed hard roll, toasted.

84. I would like a slice of cheese - real cheese
not that petroleum product cheese food crap - encased in the burger so the cheese melts into the meat and keeps everything moist and doesn't get all rubbery as it cools. Then I would like all kinds of wet toppings - ketchup, mustard and relish on top. And the burger should be medium rare. The goal is to have nothing dried out - and don't toast the bun like my mom always did - it just makes it taste like it's been sitting out a few hours. grrrr.
