If they evolved on totally different planets , is there a back story for that.

Not dissing star trek , just saw the movie , and a lot of things seemed to defy science .

1. Donkey's and horses = mules
Earlings + Lucifer's fallen angles = cyclops

At least that's what I've heard.

2. Pon Farr, baby!
Well, that's how Vulcans mate with each other.

As for your question, Vulcans are humanoid and have similar reproductive organs. At least, that's how I imagine it in my Spock fantasies.

3. A lot of ST episodes/novels
Suggest that most of the humanoid races are related distantly (seeding of DNA by one alien race)...at least that's one rationale I have heard

4. It was revealed in a TNG episode that all humanoids in the galaxy
evolved from a common ancestor.

This guy explains it better than I can: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Star-Trek-Next-1184/2009/1/species-1.htm

8. One of the worst episodes of any series of all time ever
Nothing like an Intelligent Design episode to make you realize that Spock's Brain really wasn't as bad as you'd thought.

Establishing enough real world consistency so that more thoughtful viewers aren't jarred out of the suspension of disbelief has never been a concern of his.

I mean, have you seen any episodes of "Fringe"?

From watching "Lost" I've noticed then whenever some outrageous logical hole in the narrative is revealed, people start shooting at each other.

10. I don't understand the problem. Vulcans were "monitoring" earth for some undefined time.
Humans explored space.

I'm sure there is some backstory on how Spock's father and mother met, but they are both humaniods. The Vulcans and Humans did meet and intermingle at some point. It seems totally logical that a pairing of each could occur.

What is the big mystery?
