Saw the new star trek movie, thought it was decent, not a masterpiece but one of the better star trek movies. especially loved that red shirts are STILL unlucky, McCoy got in a "My god man, I'm a DOCTOR!" I only wish Simon Pegg could've gotten in a "Captain, we need more power!"

2. yeah, who would've thought

as long as you don't go in expecting The Godfather, it's definitely worth seeing. It's a fun movie that manages to get in some nice homages to the original series.

7. It's a visual treat, but the movie seems to rely more on the visuals than actually doing something.

Self-mocking and nicking dialogue directly from the 10 old movies and then making a reference to Archer and his stupid beagle... UGH!

8. I thought the plot was a bit weak in some parts

I think I can accept the whole time travel alternate ST timelime thing given a little time but the way they explained how Spock traveled in time was kind of lame. I thought they had Kirk Spock and McCoy remain true to their charcters. By the end of the movie it 'felt' like the origional crew to me. I also admit I'm a little curious to see what they do in the sequels. Simon Pegg was a great Scotty.

11. Well, ST flicks are seldom, if ever, plotted very tightly.

We watch them for the characters, the fun and, at their best, the ideas.

So, some of my plot "duhs". With one exception we'll pass by the odd number ones; that's just shooting wounded doves.

ST: II. No one knew about Vulcan katra transference? Would seem an important detail, at least on file at Fleet Medical.

ST: IV. No way in hell Chekov would have been sent to a civilian hospital. Navy, FBI POV, he was a spy and/or saboteur. He would have been sent to a gov't hidey hole under security a gnat couldn't get through. If by some remote possibility he would have, there would been raw meat eating Marine guards prowling all over the place, not two civilian cops.

ST: V. "Why does God need a space ship?" That kinda blew the whole narrative.

ST: VI. The Klingons never noticed Kirk's transponder? Klingons and sloppy security protocols - not in the same time/space continuum.

ST: First Contact. How did Cockrane, Rikker and LaForge get back to the launch site and how did the Phoenix wind up in the Smithsonian?

9. yeah, that's all I was expecting

the days of Khan and First Contact are over. now it's all Nemesis and this new ST. But that's fine, I love the popcorn movies as much as meaningful dramas and whatnot. it was entertaining and I liked the little references to the old series. I think I was the only person in the theater to get the reference when the one red shirt died on the drill.
