What are you giving the mater for Mother's Day?
My mom in NC: flowers that she loved.

Haruka's bonkers mother here: a bottle of "Mommy's Time Out" wine.

7. We have to suffer dinner at Haruka's mom's tomorrow
She always goes totally bonkers on Mother's Day for some reason. It's very strange.

5. Subscription to mlb.tv
And she'll call me weekly to tell me she can't get anything done anymore because she's glued to her computer for the next 140 days.

9. My sweet mom is going through hell right now, the primary caretaker for my dad who has
terminal cancer and is just now getting a stem cell transplant.

Because of all this, it kind of screwed up our ability to get together, but I did get her two things she really wanted:

1. The new fantastic biography of the author John Cheever.
2. A copy of her favorite comedy on DVD, called "The Prisoner of Second Avenue." It is a movie based on a Neil Simon play.

I spoke to her a couple of hours ago, and I think the greatest gift she wants right now is the gift of leaving her alone. She is is so stressed.

11. A Whole Foods gift card.
She has very limited finances, and this will give her a chance to go to Whole Paycheck and get some special things that she generally wouldn't be able to get.

I think (hope?) she will love it.

:hi:

15. It's fun to pick out "extravagent" things at a store like whole foods
When I go to the co-op in the next town, I have to talk myself out of far more things than I do at my regular food store. However, having not been in a while, I was shocked to see little boxes of their baked goods for $9.00. I always thought of co-ops as stores for the common woman/man, not for rich people. :o

14. A phone call.
My mother isn't really into Mother's Day or receiving flowers, but she likes the occasional phone chat. I'll also call my daughter - it's her first Mother's Day.

I mentioned to my mother yesterday that I probably ought to get on the phone and order some flowers for my MIL. She correctly pointed out that my MIL is not MY mother, and that perhaps her own child should make arrangements for a gift. Mom was right.
