IMHO, he did the best job...he absolutely nailed the character. Chris Pine was also excellent as Kirk...he got the essence of the character perfectly without sounding like a bad impersonation of Shatner. Simon Pegg was also perfect as Scotty. Those, for me, were the best and most enjoyable characters. All of the other characters were great...I felt everybody fit into the cast perfectly. Eric Bana was very good as the villain, Nero. Not as memorable as Khan, maybe, or General Chang, but he wasn't one-dimensional or boring.
My favorite part of the movie was the perfect chemistry between Kirk and McCoy. Anyway, it was all very well done. Great acting and dialogue, a plot that is very Trek-worthy, and it's fun and fast-paced.
I think Wrath of Khan and First Contact are the best Trek movies. I would say this matches both of them. To me, it was that good. I look forward to the next voyage of the Enterprise under this crew!

4. Here's my review, with an addendum:

I WILL acknowledge the cast was rather good indeed. Unfortunately, it's wasted talent thanks to the mockery and other problems I pointed out in my little review...

I might put this weird reboot thing over "First Contact" as I loathed that (oh dear, another self-mocking party of a flick), but for all the hype I heard about Caesar (whoops, Nero), he was a tad generic. I will put it rather above "Nemesis" because this weird trek reboot feels like "Nemesis Done Right". Not that THAT would take much, of course...

Neo-Trek worthy, perhaps. It didn't have the Trek vibe I was looking for and the ending was the worst mockery of them all. Kirk and Spock would not have been so dismissive, even with what Nero had done. "Nero", why couldn't they do modern day topical and say "Bush" and pat themselves on the back for originality...

It's a good thing he's cute, otherwise I'd never put up with that shit.

9. Totally agreed
I think First Contact will always be my favorite because I LOVE TNG, but this is easily up there with it and TWOK, you are correct. It's a beautiful movie, well cast and acted, and I really enjoyed the "parallel universe" thing, which allows them full creativity while still preserving the integrity of the Trek universe of TOS, TNG, DS9 and the like.
