I don't think there is any radiation danger, but what is the procedure for this?

1. If it still works, no problem. |
|
Running it empty won't leak any more electromagnetic radiation out of the case than running it full.

Second, why is "running it empty won't leak any more electromagnetic radiation out of the case than running it full" not comforting?

3. It'll be OK. Just subtract 5 minutes next time you cook something, to even it out |

6. Shouldn't pose a problem as long as the X-Men are still hiring. |

When they catch fire, you've got a little bit of a problem.

8. Probably nothing to worry about |

A microwave oven is essentially a transmitter and antenna (waveguide). An empty microwave would present no load to the magnetron which would create a horrible transmission mismatch, resulting in a great deal of reflected power adding to the transmitted power resulting in higher than normal peak voltage. However, I expect that most modern microwave ovens are designed for this almost certain eventuality.

And hopefully, if the folks in GD can get their Senators in gear, I can afford to get the 40lb tumor removed.
