Why one should wear a glove when cutting jalapeños.
I have a blister on one finger and most of the others are burning.

Who knew this could happen? Dayum!

It wasn't even worth it. I was careful to cut most of the heat out of the peppers, and I wound up cutting all of it out. And it seems the flavor comes with the heat.

And the fish tacos weren't even that good. My lame attempt at a sauce sucked, and the tortillas all tore down the middle. :(

1. Oh man that aint nothing
My mother and stepdad were handling ORANGE habanero peppers barehanded and my mother accidently TOUCHED HER EYE after cutting one up...:scared:.
I think my mom and stepdad have developed a tolerance to jalapeno's though..They eat them all the time and I've never heard of them having trouble...

5. Habaneros are particularly nasty
I ran out of gloves and cut a few up with my bare hands. Luckily I didn't touch my eyes, but everything I did touch and my hands hurt for 2 days afterward. I was afraid to go take a pee.

2. From jalapenos?
They're pretty mild for a hot pepper.

3. Blisters from jalapenos??????
That makes it official. I have asbestos hands. I never notice any residual heat from jalapenos or serranos.

I hope that the fish tacos are better next time.

4. Ha! we said the same thing
I've never had jalapenos bother my hands. Now, I have rubbed my eyes like an idiot before, but jalapenos/serranos have never affected my skin.

9. Habaneros don't even bother me.
I cut up about 4 lbs at a whack when making my hot sauce. Now the dogs evacuate the kitchen when I take the lid off the food processor.

8. A mild solution of bleach will neutralize the pepper heat.
one tsp in a glass of water should do.

A tip from Martha Stewart, no less...

21. External use only
hands, mostly.

If you eat the peppers, you're on your own...

16. Thank you, my sweet
But why not tell the story? Does it have to do with chopping peppers and subsequent male urination?

17. No..
It had to do with eating raw peppers and cheese with me, then going home to his wife (neighbor).

A little foreplay happened and I heard some VERY horrible screams from his wife through the walls.

It was funny afterward even to his wife, but.. o.m.g. the screams still resonate as I giggle while cutting peppers.

:D

22. Oh dear, I am sorry your tacos weren’t what you hoped for.
If I recall, you are very fair skinned? I wonder if your reaction to the heat in the peppers isn’t similar to your reaction to the sun.

23. yeah, I am frequently dissapointed by the lack of heat in jalepenos
yet the burning eyes (or nose - hey its dusty here and sometimes extractions are needed) from touching with fingers. Never had a pepper bother my hands though.

26. I chopped the jalapenos for the last batch of salsa we made and my
hands burned for 3 days. The first day was pretty uncomfortable, but it diminished over the next couple of days. I tried several things I found on the web, but none of them gave complete relief. I am definitely going to be wearing gloves before I do that again.

This site has some comments from people who report luck with several different methods. Maybe one of them would help.
