~ Rethinking the Private Message Feature ~

DU has most generously provided us with a nifty little feature, easily accessible and available to us all, widely known by its acronym: PM.
When and why do you choose to use it?
Do you think you use it wisely and judiciously?
Are you prudent with it? Stingy?

What say you about this outstanding feature?

1. I use it all the time to send stuff to people that I don't want to post

on the boards. Like my email, phone number, stuff like that.

I get a lot of requests via PM as well. Professional and personal ones.

2. You can't call out people, so it is nice to talk about them behind their back!

Kidding (sort of). I do use it. Usually it is to discuss some crazy posts, etc.

I think it is a good feature; I say that with one caveat:

Those who use it to attack when their own PM is disabled are the worst kind of cowards. Period.

Sometimes I'll use it when I want to share experiences with one person that I'd rather not make available to the general public...especially freepers who may be lurking.

And sometimes I use it to reply to someone who has posted in one of my threads without dredging the thread up again.

PMs are also useful when you want to find out how someone is doing, since they might not notice a thread devoted to their concern. It's hard to ignore that red flashing sign that alerts you to new messages. :hi:
