1. House of Wax, but "Masque Of The Red Death" was really, really atmospheric.
It's not "House Of Wax" or "The Tingler" or "The Fly," but it ROCKS.

:toast:

3. it's a great movie
i just watched it again a couple days ago.

it gets into some themes of death, religion, power and how humans relate...definitely more existential than the usual Corman Poe adaptation

the interesting thing about Price's character is the fact that he started worshipping Satan based on logical reasons derived from empirical evidence of the world around him (or so he claims)

and Hazel Court is dishy!

8. did you get to see it in the theater?
i hear in some theaters they rigged the seats and gave random audience members an electrical shock at the scariest scenes

11. I didn't but my mom did
She said they had something running along the floor and a nurse in the lobby with a stretcher. The premise is so wonderfully original and abstract for a horror movie. It scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

12. that is awesome!
i loved the scenes where VP seems sinister but is only trying to scare his wife for scientific purposes. (the dialog between them is fantastic)

also, like i mentioned, the acid trip scene.

and of course, the only colored scene in the movie, which totally caught me by surprise. (it is really shocking if you don't know it's coming)

and a bit of trivia....his research assistant is actually played by Darryl Hickman, who starred with Vincent Price in Leave Her To Heaven with Gene Tierney. (he's a little kid in that one)

5. I liked pretty much all of his work. I was particularly fond of his E.A. Poe works:
Masque of the Red Death
The Raven

But, my absolute favorite was 'A Comedy of Terrors'.

15. For me it is a toss up between "Comedy of Terror" and "The Raven"
"Comedy of Terror" is fun because it is so campy/funny.

But how can you beat Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson all in the same movie together? Add in all the schtick between the actors and the familiar stock footage, and "The Raven" is a classic.

10. that is one of my favorite all time movies
because it's so bizarre.

i mean, can you imagine presenting that script to a producer and them saying, "sounds good lets make it!"

it would have never gotten made in todays world, only in the bizarro AIP world.

i hear the Saw movies got their inspiration from the Phibes movies (only seen Saw 1, didn't like it because of plot holes)

14. "The Last Man on Earth" which is forgotten mainly because...
"Night of the Living Dead" came out and stole its thunder.

Other than that, the Phibes movies were just so much bizarre fun.

17. I can't pick.
The Fly is a classic, I love both of the Poe movies he did, the Phibes movies are fucked up, The Last Man On Earth is truly cool, and The Tingler is a great cornball B-movie. There's more good ones like The Oblong Box, The Monster Club, Comedy of Terrors...he was fucking Egghead in Batman fer crying out loud!

I loved the guy.

I'm stumped.

20. I don't remember the name of it.
It was about trying to find eternal life or something. He puts a guy in a chair, locks him in, puts the key in a vase close enough for the guy to kick the vase over, which he does and there's scorpions inside it that sting him to death.

Sound familiar to anybody? I think I was 11 or 12 and I stayed up all night for the first time watching movies.

29. I enjoyed Laura, Dragonwyck, House of Wax and The Raven so far
I have House on Haunted Hill in my Netflix Instant queue. When I'm not so broke I'll watch some more of his stuff that's available for download on Amazon, but not on Netflix, like Comedy of Terrors
LOVE Vincent Price!
