Good morning Lounge
How are you today? How was your weekend? I was busy and lazy :) I got my new shoe rack, but haven't put it totally together yet. Need help there. Anyone wants to come over and drill a hole in the wall? Pretty please? :7 I also planted my tomato plants in big pots. Cooked a lot (for example stewed me rhubarb and cooked pudding to eat with the rhubarb .... childhood memories). I also had my first strawberries this weekend :9

This week the Good morning threads will only be till Wednesday. Thursday and Friday I am not at home. Going to visit my mom for a long weekend. I am going to take my camera with me, so in case I am stumbling over something nice I will take pictures :)

AirmensMom sent me new pics of my baby, so here he is as the
Picture of the Day

1. Grus Gott Miss H
(I hope I spelled that right, Do folks still use that form of greeting over in Bavaria?)
That is one handsome kitty gettin' in some sun. You got strawberries all ready? Around here, I'm told by the local fresh fruits vendor that we are at least a week or better out from having ours ready. If I could, I'd be there in a wink to get that mean ol wall drilled for ya.

Yes, it is still used in Bavaria and in Baden-Württemberg :)

Yep, the strawberry season started :woohoo: I brought me some for my lunch today :9
Also, the asparagus season is in full operation at the moment. Except, that I don't eat asparagus.

Pretty please come over? I will even cook for you :D

Edited on Mon May-18-09 03:11 AM by chknltl
You know how I love your country and being an aging hippie I gots this thing for eating...plus I KNOW how you German ladies can cook and bake and...damn, now I am daydreaming of walking by a German bakery!!!! WHY OH WHY did I ever leave!!! If I could I'd drill ya a baker's dozen holes in that wall!

I'm not such a big fan of asparagus either-(doesn't go well with paprika schnitzel), but I confess that I know of no finer berry than a freshly picked strawberry. My first job as a child-(loooong ago) was picking strawberries. I am sorry to report that the good farmer took a loss on me that season. If my memory is still accurate I may have earned a whopping $27 that season! I further recall that the field supervisor-lady felt the need to recommend to my mother that I be taken to a hospital because she thought I must have had some kind of bladder problems. She was concerned because she had observed me heading off to the bathroom every fifteen minutes. Funny thing about strawberries, they can be worse than beer if you eat enough and I as an eight year old strawberry connoisseur surely ate MORE than enough.

15. You know, torture is a bit of a sore subject with us lately...
Edited on Mon May-18-09 04:16 AM by chknltl
...and yet you persist on turning the thumbscrews even tighter! If only I were a decade, (OK make that two decades) younger! (insert big sigh here).

Actually, when asked by my mother, I fully confessed to my strawberry snatchery. If I recall, my work ethic consisted of eating the red ones....seeing as how every one I picked was red...well you can see how I was not the model employee. I went back there the very next year and did a bit better for myself-money-wise that is. My mother ratted me out to the field supervisor lady, she made it a point to hover near me to ensure that I was toiling away productively that next season. Even-so I still managed to be the record setter for potty breaks again.

It's way past my bedtime Miss H. My promise to you has been fulfilled-I managed to stay awake past midnight local time just to drop in to say hey to you. It's been fun, now I'm off to bed with (of all things) a Marty Robbins song as an ear-worm. It's an old country/western tune from the early 1960's titled "Devil Woman". I doubt it has a video over on you-tube but if it does I'll edit it in to this post before I sign off for the night.

on edit: OMG!!! there actually is a you-tube vid of "Devil Woman". If you're interested, here is a bit of American history:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7hCuDL8j2M Boy, they just don't make vocalists like that anymore! Oh and any notions you may have that I was insinuating that you are a Devil Woman would be erroneous-you are one of the nicest people I know of in the DU Lounge-a Lounge which is full of nice people!

9. Mornin' Miss H
I did a whole lot of nothing this weekend. It was nice, but I've been looking forward to today. I go for an evaluation at the weight loss clinic today and I'll probably sign up for another 4 months. I might decide to make it 8 months. I'll get a discount and if I pay for a total of 52 weeks of service and attend all of my classes, I will be a member for life for free. That is appealing to me because I think it would keep me from becoming Extra Large Droopy again. :) I've also scheduled an appointment with my former psychologist today. She is the one who is responsible for getting me started down this path. I haven't seen her in 4 months and I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees how much weight I've lost. I didn't say anything about it when I scheduled the appointment on the phone. I just said that I was doing a lot better. :)

You have a beautiful cat. I love cats and dogs, but I don't own any. If I ever get one, I'll probably adopt a cat. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the pictures you will take this weekend.

Ohh ... I can understand why you have been looking forward to day. It sure will be an important day for you. Please tell me tomorrow what your psychologist said. I am sure she will be proud of you. As you can be of yourself.

Unfortunately Simon isn't living with me. But as you can see he is having a great life with AirmensMom. :) I would love to have a cat myself again. But I don't have the time for a pet right now. I think it would be unfair to the animal.

38. Two months!
Edited on Mon May-18-09 06:02 AM by DFW
She just finished he second year of Law School in the USA and like all law students,
was looking for a summer associate position with a decent law firm. They usually pay
a couple of thousand dollars a week for decent students (she is 15th in a class of 192),
but this year, not only were there no positions to be had (unless you were in the top
2% of Harvard Law or Yale Law), but many law firms are downsizing.

One of her professors likes her a lot (academically, that is!), and knows the head of
the European office of a big international law firm. Its head office is in Vienna (no
relation to what I was doing there yesterday), and since she is bi-lingual in German
and has an EU passport, she was given the option of working in any of their German-
speaking offices. She asked where they were apart from Vienna. She was told Frankfurt,
Köln and Düsseldorf. She jumped at the chance to come home and work for 2 months, so
she chose Düsseldorf.

Her poor boyfriend, who is from Düsseldorf, and is learning the Hotel business, went
through hell to get himself a one year apprenticeship in New York, where she goes to
Law School, and now is watching in dismay as he is stuck in New York until the end of
July while she comes back to Düsseldorf for the summer. We will all meet up on Cape Cod
for August anyway, so it's not like they will be apart for the whole time, and the firm
she will be working with has a rep as slave drivers anyway, so it's not like she'd have
much time for him even if he were here.

on edit--she is bringing her new cat with her. She SAYS all the paperwork is in order, but
I'll believe that one when the Hauptzollamt Düsseldorf Flughafen says it is.

in the U.S.

I fell in love with him when I visited AirmensMom two years ago. We were at a PetsMart and there he was. I asked the lady to hold him (even though I know I couldn't take him). He started purring the second I held him in my arms. And I was lost. AirmensMom was so kind to give him a loving home since I couldn't take him with me back to Germany.

I know Airmens Mom is a good mommy for him. So you have a distant son...Is he bilingual???:P

When I was in Germany years ago, I had brought my one cat with me(whom I still have). But my girlfriend at the time found a little stray in Bad Aibling under a car by a Gasthaus (sp?). Just a tiny little fluff ball and she came back to live with us in our apartment in Germany and then went back to the US with Cristie.

She never got along with my cat; we always said it was a language barrier:P . Actually though, my cat doesn't get along with ANY other animals.

I am always saying I am his god mom, but AirmensMom says I am his momma. And when I visited her again last year he remembered me and was always waiting at the door for me :D

You spelled Gasthaus correctly :)
I was really thinking about taking him back with me. But he was only 8 weeks old and not old enough to have all shots that are necessary to bring a cat into Germany. I am eternal grateful to AirmensMom that she took him in.

My late cat, Octavia, was a only cat too. Some of them are just that way.

Simon looks so content. But then who wouldn't be living with AirmensMom!

Got a lot of stuff done over the weekend, but yet managed to have some lazy time too. All my stuff is gathered on my daybed next to my suitcase, so all I have to do on Wednesday is throw my stuff in my suitcase and I'm off for my vacation.

I've got a lot of things to finish up at work before I leave on Wednesday so I suspect it's going to be a fast week. :bounce:

Glad that you get to enjoy strawberries. They are in season in some parts of the US so can purchase them in stores. A little early in the season for my area though.

I can't believe that you don't like asparagus. First it's seafood - now asparagus. ;) Whatever are we going to do with you?

As kids, we'd take our bikes out into the country and pick the wild asparagus that grew along the fences. What fun!

Hiking also sounds fun. Hope the weather is good for you.

I have to admit I prefer other painters over Van Gogh, but I still look forward to that exhibition. When do you have the chance to see all his paintings.

The weather is supposed to be very nice. I hope that turns out to be true.

I know you are teasing with the food. Just serve me pasta and shrimp and you have a happy MissHoneychurch :D

successful in securing tickets. I simply adore Van Gogh. He's a fabulous talent, but of course had a troubled soul.

Pasta and shrimp? Yummy! Pasta and anything really is yummy!

Okay, gotta go start my short work week.

Wishing you a grand day!

I like it. It is sour tasting, and you need a milk product to eat it with. That is why I made me pudding. You can use rhubarb for a cake too and just make a cheese cake dough with rhubarb on top of it.

I did the sick thing all weekend. I watched a couple movies, slept A LOT. I only left the apartment to do laundry, which had to be done, but I felt awful afterwards.

I'm feeling better today, but I've still got a headache that won't go away.

Anyways, it keeps getting hotter over here. Estimated to be 107 today. :scared:

I made it through renfest weekend. This weekend's theme was Scots and Kilts (formerly Highland) weekend. Of course, it rained the whole weekend, as it has for the past 10 or so years. :P Even Sunday, the day it was supposed to get clear, it rained more. It rain well into the night. It's clear now--Monday morning.

110. Good morning Miss H
This weekend was a good one pretty much. I've been getting up early again 5,6,7ish and finding out just how much day I've been missing :D

Saturday I went to the Farmer's Market here for the first time and ended up buying 10 tomato plants. I am waiting until tomorrow to put them in containers. It's supposed to frost tonight. Boo! After that I helped get 3 pups adopted and one kitty.

Sunday my daughter, her beau, and my grandson stopped by for a few hours. I thought I'd "rest my eyes" after they left and totally went to sleep at about 8pm. Oops. Well, I did sleep all night so that was a good thing.

I passed on the strawberries hehe. They are everywhere around here. Soon :9

:hi:
