Poll question: Trekker or Trekkie?
After the original series was canceled and its fans became a cult (of sorts), they tended to be referred to as trekkies. At some point, they started objecting to this and insisting on trekker. It's 2009 now and frankly I'm so far out of the pop culture loop that I don't even have a guess whether anybody cares anymore or even remembers the distinction. Thoughts?

Note: Google hits
trekker 5.5M
trekkie 750K
One assumes that the former is a brand name (or a bunch of them).

1. I consider myself to be both, but one of them involves sturdy shoes and
the great outdoors...

2. As someone who began watching the reruns in the late Seventies, I've accepted
that demonination, "Trekkie." (I'm not much of a Trekkie these days, though.) It was not the most flattering term, but it is more particularized than "Trekker," which has so many other connotations for travelers.

For better or worse, I think we're stuck with "Trekkie."

6. "Demonination" may be the single greatest typo ever, particularly in this context.
Kudos!:toast: It may have been an accident, but I think you coined one.

4. My sons are both Trekkies, and
one of them and his wife, who's also a Trekkie, named their daughter after a Star Trek alien.

7. The way I heard it
Trekkies are the kids in Galaxy Quest.

Trekkers enjoy the series, are relatively knowledgeable, but don't the blueprints memorized or stored on their computers.

In short, a matter of degree.

FWIW
