Check in here if you have NEVER seen one episode of American Idol.
Edited on Wed May-20-09 06:05 PM by Mike 03
I haven't. (But to be honest, I don't have television, so it would be impossible for me to.)

When I informed my niece (12 years old) of this fact, she thought I had to be lying or joking.

I don't feel that I'm missing anything.

5. I saw a few minutes of it this morning. My wife was watching it as I
went to make tea in the kitchen.
When I got back, she was watching something else, with the shooting and explosions that she loves so well....

I have no opinion of the show, but I'll probably never actually watch it till I'm in the senile home, drooling in the corner of the dayroom. Med time!

My homophobic neighbor was yelling and screaming about for everyone to vote for the "not gay" guy because his sexuality won't corrupt America. I hadn't a clue what she was blathering about until I got inside and Googled the names.

I have a television, but Fox is only on for House or Fringe, and I mute the commercials.

Another reality crapfest. I got stuck watching part of one over at a friend's house and I was like, "Good God man! How can you watch this shit?" Just an awful show - those people are just THE BEST KARAOKE SINGERS in America - they don't play instruments or anything! Call me old fashioned, but I actually like for musicians I listen to to, oh I dunno, actually play a musical instrument. :P

do you really have to experience everything to make a judgment about it?

hell it's a tee vee show - I have experienced tee vee shows before, so in my book that is enough reason to judge it likely to be mindless "entertainment" that I don't want to waste time with

add to that the info gleaned from reading about it here and I'm pretty sure of my judgement

63. Never even tempted. That does for shows like The Apprentice
too. It used to bug me at work(when I had a job) where almost all my co-workers talked about this show all day long. There ware other totally useless shows they would chat about too.

If I asked what they thought of one or two of the programs I watched, I would get a dumb look as though I was Really, Really old to watch that stuff.

I guess they are harmless but those programs certainly do nothing for the mind.
I guess us old folks remember TV when it was entertainment, not whatever it is today.

and, like wondering "Who killed JR," knowing something about it is simply being polite in general conversation.

Myself, I watched a few minutes of it here and there, usually by accident, and find it harmless and am not swept into the hysteria.

74. One woman got angry with me when I said I'd never seen it.
I've had several people tell me I resemble Simon. The first was an older woman at a local bar. At that time I'd never even heard of Simon but this woman flat out refused to believe me when I said I hadn't seen the show and didn't know who she was talking about. She eventually became quite rude until my wife arrived and assured her that I had never seen the show.

Just a few weeks ago a young lady at the drive through told me I looked like Simon and I said, "I am Simon". I think she may have started to believe me until I added, "When I'm not on TV I like to drop the phony accent and drive around central Indiana in a beat up old chevy".

77. Checking in...
Never seen it, and not only because I live in Italy. They have shows like that on Italian and German television as well, but manufactured pop singers just aren't my thing.

The only music themed show that I ever watched was "Bands On The Run" on VH1 about ten years ago. They sent four bands on tour in separate vans and they had to promote their gigs and get people to come. It was pretty entertaining and the music wasn't that terrible (at least they wrote their own stuff). I don't know if they ever did any more seasons after the first...

81. Technically I saw one but only because I had the flu and was too sick to find the remote control or
get up and change the channels. Mind you I was probably watching Seinfeld reruns, which tend to be on right before Fox original programming kicks in.

I can't even remember what season it was or who was playing but I thought I was watching "American Karoake" or something.

82. Me
At first, I refused to watch because I thought having a cruel motherfucker pretending to be a critic on TV wasn't worth my time. Now, I just don't have the American Idol habit, I guess.

83. Never seen it. Don't want to. And I do have tv and cable...
so it is a very purposeful omission on my part.

84. I've only seen bits and pieces...
...and (I think) only when a nearby TV was tuned to Fox the next day. On Fox, Idol counts as news coverage.

88. I've never seen it,
and I resent even knowing who any of these people are. They are taking up space in my head that could be put to better use. Like thinking about scratching my ass.

I have also never watched any of the "Survivor" shows, or any other "reality" TV for that matter.
Once, I did have to sit through one episode of "The Bachelor".

It's just not my thing. I'm not a fucking hipster so I don't pass value judgments on those who do like it, though (NOT referring to you, Mike!). It's a valid form of entertainment. It's just not up my alley, at all.

95. Nope. Could not care less.
Pop culture is lost on me. Never watched one Seinfeld show, or Lost, or Cheers, or....well, you get the picture.

People where I used to work would talk about what they saw on the tube the night previous, and I had no clue as to what the big deal was.

97. "I don't feel that I'm missing anything."
It is just a televised singing competition, nothing more and nothing less.

I don't like the songs they general sing, but I don't think it is evil. Just not my taste.

but I was totally turned off by the attitudes of the judges.

Now and then I'll watch a youtube clip that someone recommends.

105. Count me in the never column.
Never could get into shows like that or any reality shows, for that matter. And judging by all the "the wrong person one" reports I've seen today, it sounds like the fix was in long before either singer uttered a single note.
Waste of time to invest any interest.
