Glen Campbell, "Wichita Lineman," live on The Smothers Brothers Show
My favorite Campbell song next to "Gentle On My Mind," and the greatest song Jimmy Webb ever wrote..."And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time"...

1. He didn't sound too bad in the short time he was a Beach Boy
He did the right thing by going solo. He's got a great voice.

4. I saw him at the Circle Star Theater (San Carlos, CA) at his peak...
...he looked like a wax figure from Madame Tussaud's (every SINGLE hair was in place), but he also hit every not in every one of his hit songs.

I know he's faced his demons, but proof of his redemption came to me via the fact that he covered Tom Petty's "Walls" in his 2008 "comeback" album, "Meet Glen Campbell."

The fact that he FOUND that song...or listened to someone who found it for him...speaks to his genius.

5. I heard that song for the first time last year
my wife couldn't believe I haven't heard it before! She found it and played it for me. It's a great song but I couldn't get it out of my head for almost three days! Damn you Campbell and your wistfully tender melodies!

Brings back so many fond memories. My mom was a huge fan and I grew up listening to him.

9. He's one of the few artists who could pull off a legitimate "Greatest Hits" album.
...I am also a John Hartford fan, so "Gentle On My Mind" is an automatic favorite. "Wichita Lineman" hit me for specific reasons I still don't understand. "Galveston" was another one...a gem in a collection of gems.

12. I was watching the movie "Brubaker" the other day
and at the point where "Woody" (M. Emmet Walsh) is driving up to the prison to "welcome" the new warden, Galveston is playing on his car-radio :D

11. I remember watching him play "Wichita Lineman"
on the Glen Campbell Show. :) My little cousin idolized Glen Campbell. Used to dance around the house with a toy guitar, playing Glen Campbell.

13. Great, yes, but I think the greatest song Jimmy Webb wrote was this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu2TZS4I1KY

Invigorating music and incisive lyrics. He also wrote "Paper Cup," "Up, Up and Away" and "McArthur Park" as well as "Wichita Lineman" but "Carpet Man" is still my favorite of his songs.
