There's a dead man on my coffee table.
Literally.

I haven't mentioned it here, but my girlfriend has been slowly moving in with me over the past few weeks. All her belongings are here now, and this place is as arranged as it's ever gonna be. But one item kinda stands out- his name was Lindy, and he helped raise Carol (my girlfriend). When he passed he was cremated, and she took possession of his ashes.

Lacking a more honorable spot on which to enshrine him, he finally took possession as centerpiece on my coffee table, and he resides there now. I thought for a while it would creep me out, but it hasn't. On the contrary- it's actually rather relaxing and contemplative gazing at the beautiful gray marble container (I have no idea what the formal name of it is). He was a big man in life, and now that he's been reduced to his final essence he fits nicely into the scheme of my living room.

To Lindy. Rest in peace, old buddy. It's a pity I never knew you in life.

4. When we where clearing out my fathers
apartment after his death my brother asked me what I was carrying in the trunk of my car. I told him Dad. He had been cremated amd I was taking back, across state lines, to where he would be buried.

So he sat on the basement workbench he built for about 6 months, from October until April.
