Have you ever had a pill stick in your throat?
You know, you go to swallow a pill and it feels like it got stuck halfway down? It sucks when its an aspirin, it can start to burn as it dissolves.

1. It's not really stuck -
the pill just stretched the esophagus a bit, so it feels like the pill.

Or else it's stuck and you might want to Heimlich yourself.....................

2. Right, over the back of a chair.
Can you speak? Can you breathe? If yes to either, then you're OK. If no, find a chair, or a neighbor!

3. I'm not sure
When its Aspirin, if you dally, it can start to burn, so I think its actually there. The handful times in my life that has happened, I drank water and that solved the problem.

Today its an acidophilus caplet. And all I feel is an odd pressure in my throat. And water has not solved it. Air and water pass easily and non-obstructedly, so you may be right about stretching. It just seems odd that a tiny little pill could disturb a throat that easily accommodates pieces of food better suited to a ravenous wolf.

Its just a very weird feeling, and I wondered if anyone else ever has this happen.

5. I have -
that's how I know what it might be. I asked a physician friend about it, and I just told you his explanation.

The esophagus is a very flexible, very sensitive part of the body. It has memory, so maybe that's what happened. I hope so.

You gotta take that stuff with LOTS of water.................

10. Yep. Repeatedly. Turns out....
I had scar tissue in my esophagus and had to have it stretched. (Ouch!) The pills were actually just the first sign. I got to to the point that I couldn't swallow food and was living on liquids before a doctor actually figured it out, which is strange because it's a common condition.

But ummm, yeah. My point is that if this is happening to you frequently, you may want to see a doctor about it before you end up living on Ensure for a while. :puke:

11. Yeah, but only with certain pills.
I can actually swallow most pills with no problem, even without water. However, these huge B-vitamin pills I sometimes take always feel stuck. Bleh.

12. I was unable to swallow pills as a youngster.
I had that happen numerous times. Very, very uncomfortable and even scary, though I could always breathe. Sparkling water like soda water or Perrier will help. Also, little pieces of bread.
