I'm seven months into the accelerated 2 year masters program and it's going great! Plus, I've been working my way through three separate and additional pre-req classes since I started all this last fall. I'm almost done (4 weeks left) of my very last pre-req, which happens to be my least favorite: Research Methods: Qualitative and Quantitative. Ugh. I'll be done w/ it by June 17th, then I can just focus on the masters classes.
This program is 10 sessions of 9 weeks each and we just finished up w/ Session 3 last weekend. We're in class every w/e on Fridays evenings and all day Saturdays. We normally get a w/e off between sessions, so I've been thoroughly enjoying a bit of a break.
We'll start up again next w/e with Session 4. I should be done by Oct of next year.
I start up with my practicum supervised field placement work in the fall. On top of school work, we also had to apply and interview at different agencies in order to secure a trainee position for ourselves so we can start collecting our clinical hours. The practicum work is a key component to the second year of the masters program. Happily, I got offered a placement with an agency in Pajaro Valley that works w/ the 26 schools in the Parajo Valley School District. Basically, I'll be working in a school-based program, counseling troubled Latino youth 10 hrs a week for the next academic school year. It'll be tough, but great experience.
That's where the REAL rubber will hit the road, when I start applying all the learning I've assimilated into actual clinical work. Wish me luck.
How's life on your end? Still happily married? Still doing the paralegal thing? Are you still thinking law school? I'm sending you good thoughts and a warm hug. Great to "see" you, keep in touch!
