If I am mistaken about Natalie Portman, I will own up to and apologize here and eat crow
Edited on Sat May-23-09 08:39 PM by Mike 03
But can someone please point me towards one single film she has made, in which she has been a great or even passable actress, after she reached the age of twelve or however old she was when she made THE PROFESSIONAL.

If I have not seen it, I will order a copy from Amazon tonight, have it overnighted, watch it, and if she is great in the film, I swear I will admit it.

I will admit that Natalie Portman is a good, acceptable or great actresss.

What film do I need to see, in which she has performed, to "get it" when it comes to her acting ability.

I'm not disputing that she is gorgeous. She is. I'm only disputing that she can act.

24. Another agreement, and then some
V For Vendetta is one of the most powerful, inspiring movies I've ever seen, and I thought Portman was absolutely outstanding in her role.

Also, she did a good job in V for Vendetta.

Certainly not as comestibles.

3. She was good in a minor role in Heat (the Pacino/Deniro film)
She's also pretty good in Anywhere but Here, though I don't particularly care for the film as a whole.

8. You are right; I had forgotten about that.
She actually was really good in that. She was a little kid, but she was great in that film.

I recall her suicide in the tub.

Thanks for jogging my memory on that one.

places in the heart or whatever where she lived in a Walmart while pregnant.

Star Wars movies ok

V for Vendetta

I dunno, she's a young actress who went to a good school, whether she makes any great movies remains to be seen.

The irony of Jude Law and Julia Roberts in a movie about adultery is pretty thick.

27. Okay, I will put in an order at Amazon that includes "V for Vendetta," which I have not seen.
Because this is a holiday weekend, I won't receive it until Wednesday or Thursday.

Thank you!

Also, I appreciate the memory jog about Michael Mann's film HEAT, even though she was probably twelve years old. That was a very poignant role.

29. What have you seen her in that prompted this vote of no confidence?
She's not made that many movies, and apart from that kids movie she made with Dustin Hoffman, I don't see any true stinkers on her resume.

And don't forget, bad direction, bad editing, etc. can make almost anyone look bad. Look at some of the shit Marlon Brando did, but you wouldn't dispute that he had at least SOME acting chops.

The whole movie was anti-war, but she delivered a powerful statement.

Also just watched Paris, Je T'aime, and enjoyed her vinette the most.

You win.

She WAS amazing in that film, even though it was just a sequence.

You know what?

I was wrong, again.

She was tremendous in that sequence, and it is also a sequence that many actresses would have refused.

She was brave. She performed that role. She owned it. She aced it.

I retract my negative comments about Natalie Portman. It's not her fault; but she has had some awful directors.

COLD MOUNTAIN.

She was brilliant in that sequence.

No doubt.

But I have to add, and I hope George Lucas fans don't take offense: He is one of the worst directors of human beings who has ever worked in cinema.

I also forgot about her in that movie until reminded. That was a brutal part of the movie. Just rough. But, I also thought Closer was brutal in a different way. The consequences of being unfaithful hit hard with me in that movie for some reason.

40. No, I didn't like in her in CLOSER, but my sisters did.
I tried really hard to like that film, and even own it, but I can't appreciate it on any level.

Maybe one of these days I will watch it again and love it and "get" it.

I thought Natalie Portman was very mis-cast in that film. I would have cast a million other actresses before her in that particular role.

That's just me, and you know about opinions. They are like you-know-whats.
