They are redoing Buffy The Vampire Slayer
http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.reuters.com/quotbuffy-vampire-slayerquot-returning-big-screen-reuters

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen, courtesy of the director of the original movie.

"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but director Fran Rubel Kuzui is working on a relaunch with Vertigo Entertainment, which specializes in English-language remakes of Asian films, such as "The Grudge" and "The Departed."

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Kuzui and Vertigo are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.

It looks like they want to make sure it sucks ass.

1. It's not really Buffy if Joss Whedon isn't involved
He's the indispensable piece.

3. Yes, I'll have to make sure I avoid this one.
In fact, I may just even "boycott" the damn thing, even if it makes me seem like Billdo the Clown.

4. It's not really Star Trek if Gene Roddenberry isn't involved...
Hasn't stopped people from frothing over the new series...

People will go and see it and will likely love it. :(

5. Roddenberry handed off the reins of Star Trek, though
Roddenberry was involved in the movies and Star Trek: The Next Generation, and was able to hand off the reins to Rick Berman over time... and had 25 years to put his stamp on the Star Trek name. It was a gradual transition.

With Buffy & Whedon, this is like if Roddenberry had no input into the Star Trek movies or Star Trek: TNG and beyond.

14. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but......
Gene died back in '91. :(

His ashes are up in space with James Doohan and Tim Leary.

7. The original movie?
It would take considerable effort, considering even Whedon wasn't thrilled by it.

8. From what I gathered, I think Whedon barely did more than write a basic script outline for it.
I could be misremembering though.

9. Why do "Buffy" at all?
It was an ensemble... I can't imagine anything remotely Buffy without the Scooby Gang.

10. This kind of reminds me of season 3 of the Gargoyles TV show.
The studio got rid of the creator and tried to do their own thing. And it was so bad that they didn't even bother to air the third season in most places.
