Good news, bad news
Well the good news is it looks like I'm going to be able to get my interferon without a big fuss..:woohoo: However, I was taking a closer look at the paperwork from Mayo on my test results and the lymph node thats swollen...is in my chest AND the doctor is recommending a biopsy...YIKES.
Has anyone had this procedure done?...it sounds....scary and complicated and sounds like surgery of some sort...:scared:

4. That is good news.
I had a biopsy taken of my bone marrow to determine how bad my hemochromatosis was... I did not feel it when they took it, but after it felt like someone had kicked me real hard in my left hip.

The blood doc told me, that eventually I must have a liver biopsy done... I'm not looking forward to that.

6. I've had a bone marrow biopsy done twice
Not fun. I'm thinking having a needle stuck into my chest area is going to be nasty...

7. I'm so relieved to hear about the interferon
but I'm apprehensive like you, about going through that biopsy.

my mom had a liver biopsy, which apparently is a real bear, since they don't do a local for the liver (I don't know about your situation though), but she said it was unpleasant but it was very quick.

oh and:

8. Never had a needle biopsy done
Had surgical biopsies done on the two cancerous nodes on my neck, and some of the non cancerous nodes in my abdomen.

10. Remember to breathe and try to be calm
I find that helps when undergoing medical procedures.

Hoping it's nothing to worry about.

11. Your HMO must have a new claims person
:P

I don't have much to offer on the other. I myself have only recently reached the point where I can have blood drawn without undue incident. :(

15. Fabulous news on the interferon!
I have been told that needle biopsies are not that bad. They numb the skin then do an aspiration. However, that is with breast lumps. But it makes sense to me because of the nature of lymph nodes that a needle biopsy would be the way to go, but I can't be sure for you. Anyway, it is better to know than not know. You are under good medical care, that is positive.

16. Yes, I've had biopsies.
Depending on the type? You will get plenty of meds to prevent any pain or discomfort.

It's not scary. It's usually done in the doc's office.
