Does someone you know do something for fun that you find terrifying?

My younger brother is a scuba diver, bad enough for me, but he is in a club that dives shipwrecks and for vacations he explores underwater caves. I wouldn't do any of that on a bet.

My youngest brother used to be a caver, too, now that I think about it, but on land, rather, under it....

I hope I haven't been a poor example and made them crazy...

1. A redneck neighbor of mine goes "noodling" for catfish...

He actually uses his own arm for bait by digging around in muddy, snake-infested water. Personally, I prefer the good ole' rod and reel. The thought of a huge catfish actually swallowing my arm makes me shiver!!!

Frog gigging is often done with a four-tined spear. Four-tined spears are preferred for frog gigging, as they are normally wider giving the frog hunter more room for error when thrusting the spear-tipped gig at the frog.

Frog gigging is often done at night, however it can be done during the day. Traditionally, flashlights or spotlights are used to locate the frogs as their eyes reflect the light at night. In addition to help the locating of frogs, shining a light in their eyes stuns or daze the frogs, and makes it less likely for the frog to see an approaching hunter, or the incoming gig itself. Frogs are often sought for the meat that resides on their hind legs. Frog legs are often cooked deep fried or sautéed.<5> The hind legs can contain as much meat as the legs of a medium-sized chicken. Traditionally they are breaded with a mixture of egg and bread or cracker crumbs. Frog legs, often imported from Asia, are available at many restaurants or stores, particularly in the Southern United States.

Although capturing frogs with a net or clasp pole may be referred to as frog gigging by some, this is incorrect, as a gig is not being used. Handling frogs with the objective of releasing them may harm the creature because chemicals can easily be absorbed through their skin.

they hung frogs up by their legs on the clothes line and beat them with sticks. Thank god when Grandma found out they could not sit for weeks.

2. I skydive (a holdover from my Army days), but a neighbor of mine bunjee jumps for fun.

Bunjeee jumping: now THAT is terrifying to me. Don't know why that gets me, but I can parachute out of a plane with no problems.

An old friend enlisted in the Marines for 4 years, and realized he had made a huge mistake as soon as he got off the bus into boot camp...oops.

39. Did a little sky-diving many years ago, but decided

to learn how to fly the plane instead. It was a lot safer. Now, bunjee jumping is something I would be terrified to do. But I have always wanted to go hang-gliding.

But not in a "caves you stand up in and wander around with a headlamp looking at the cool stalactites and stalagmites" kind of way--more like squirming through twisty, turny, tiny holes (the kind you often get stuck in). My claustrophobia wouldn't stand for that, no sir.

Whenever I am watching guys on tv going into those caves, I can feel the panic start to sink in.

27. I did that ONCE in junior high school

I have memories of crawling up and down hills underneath a roof that was maybe 2-3 feet high. Oddly enough it wasn't that that bothered me (although it was extremely physically taxing) it was stepping over the dark crevasses that went god knows how many feet down. Plus I remember edging accross a narrow part of a ledge on a long slope that went down waaay in the dark. My foot slipped...I still have nightmares about sliding down the long slope....:scared: NEVER AGAIN.

29. Ive had two people I know die in caves............

A brother and sister from the same family, on two different occasions and in different caves. That's discouragement enough for me. I realize its not that its not horribly dangerous if you know what you're doing, or doing something stupid. But, on the off chance something does happen and you have a critical failure, rescue is that much harder or impossible.

scuba dives, flies in a little tiny plane that her husband pilots, and used to ride a motorcycle. And once she went tandem skydiving. All those things scare the crap out of me (especially the skydiving).
