finally moved the chicks to their crib
After 5 days in two boxes in the living room I finally got the new babies down to the coop. They are much happier - running around like ... chickens. With their heads still on :P

Note the dust coating the reflectors - ugh. They were brand new 5 days ago. Chickens is dusty sons of guns.

2. So cute...
My mom's getting a few chickens for eggs soon. I'm looking forward to the free organic eggs.

We'd get some of our own, but the neighbors are all real close.

6. I REALLY miss the eggs - so much better.
Hens don't make much noise. Borders love to herd them, though - a bit too much if you're not careful.

3. cool
Hi,
That is awesome. My neighbor has had some chickens in the past, they are so cool. I would try, but I don't think I have the energy or the dedication to care for them as they should be cared for. Please post more pictures as they grow, and good luck!

Peace

9. My youngest is 6 months old
and my eldest is three. I have five and a week ago they came down with fowl pox. Nothing to do but wait it out but I am very upset. There is a vaccination for it it appears though mine will be immune after they recover. Carried by mosquitoes. I am learning as I go along.

10. wow! What are the symptoms and how did you find out?
I don't think I have ever had a sick chicken - they tend to succumb to sudden accidents around here. Coyotes, mostly.:grr:

11. Mine had always been healthy
too. I noticed black spots on one's comb one day and then as it progressed yellow scabs turning black just like chicken pox spreading. I am giving them tetracycline in their water this week to prevent secondary infections as one of them has the wet form of it and sounds wet when breathing. All are eating well though and it seems they will all make it.
If you google images of fowl pox there are a lot of pics of what it looks like.
