4. Congrats, and good luck! How'd it go?
It was a conference on mimetic theory, the work of Rene' Girard. Stuff about scapegoating, ritual violence, non-violent re-enactment of ritual violence, and how to take all of this out of the academic realm, and make it relevant to ordinary folks. There was all this information about "mirror neurons", which influence the imitating behaviors in non-human primates, and what their role may be in scapegoating behaviors in humans. The mirror neuron stuff was all new to me, so that was good. And a guy who has lunch several times a week with Rene Girard was there, which brought out the obsequious, sycophantic teeny-bopper in me! :)

Here's a FAQ page on what we were discussing: http://ravenfoundation.org/faq.aspx#question21

5. The final diagnosis is colitis. She's getting some medicine
that I have to sprinkle on her food, and she has to eat a high fiber dog food, maybe for just a while, maybe permanently. She likes it, so that's good. I picked her up last night, and she slept like a rock, and ate well this morning. We took a walk over the noon hour, and she seems fine.

Thanks for asking!

9. colitis isn't an 'aha' diagnosis either
It only means that the colon is inflamed and you knew that. But his suggestions are good ones. And try her on some yogurt, as someone else suggested, eventually. I'm sure she will love it. I'm glad she has pretty much recovered.

3. Still killing people because of memetic desire and a need to ritualize communal violence

in the hopes of ending it.

But, that's just me, and that's not going to change.

:D

A couple dozen scapegoats a day keeps the ... ummm ... well, it keeps me happy, I guess is the only thing that can be said about that.
