Something that gets me about Brian Eno
At the beginning of the 80s, Eno said that he had become disenchanted with rock music and wanted to explore other avenues. The possibilities of the form seemed to be exhausted.
So...after working with rock artists such as Roxy Music, David Bowie, Ultravox, Devo, Talking Heads...Eno's interest was revitalized by U2???!!!
Something tells me that Mr Eno found the standard of living provided by verrry large paychecks to be irresistible.
Am I a cynic? Or is Eno?

1. I don't know about "selling out".
That has such negative connotations. He might(I don't know) prefer to call some his stuff as "commercial" rather than a sell out. The commercial stuff does pay the bills and allows him the freedom to play around with stuff he likes more.

I don't know a lot about it, but I do know most of the big name artists of the past(Michaelangelo, etc.) routinely contracted themselves out in order to make money and support themselves. If it's easy enough, and the pay is good, why turn it down?

That's just my 2 cents. To be honest, I'm familiar with Brian Eno and U2, but know little or nothing of their collaborations. So, if you say I'm talking out of my ass here, you're probably right. :)

3. Maybe he was referring to his own music?

Eno has always been a guy who follows whatever he's interested in at the moment - viz his duo work with Robert Fripp and "Music for Airports"
