5. A shotgun scattering of styles and genres... but here it is.
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 11:28 AM by kmla
Nothing too deep or obscure, but some of my faves, nonetheless.

1. John Mellencamp (home state boy)
2. Peter Gabriel (extremely cool human bein')
3. ABC (old college favorite)
4. REM (even when their lyrics were unintelligle)
5. U2 (especially their early 80's stuff)
6. Roxy Music (bryan Ferry was cool before Robert Palmer started wearin' the suit...)
7. Squeeze (I loved it when they sang WITH the accent...)
8. Spandau Ballet (schmaltzy, I know, but still)
9. Marvin Gaye (he awakened the social conscience of Motown)
10. Don Henley (timeless - Boys of Summer still sounds like it was written yesterday, and it is 20 years old)

I realize that it is relatively mainstream, but what the hell. I still like it anyway...

(Edited for screwed up spelling and bad apostrophe)

The Beatles (#1)
Elvis
Frank Sinatra
The Bangles
CCR
Simon And Garfunkel
The Corrs
Dixie Chicks
Letters To Cleo/Kay Hanley
R.E.M.

I thought I'd represent a lot of the styles of music I like.

10. Acts according to their live performances

Zappa the best in my opinion.
Stones
Talking heads
the Roaches
Mahavishnu orchestra When Jerry Goodman was with them.
NRBQ Best bar band in the world.
Jethro Tull in the early pre "Thick As a Brick" days. He mellowed out.
Ben folds
Prince
Led Zepplin on a good night.

the Kinks were terrific, maybe edging out Led Zepplin.

A folkie but must be put in
Taj Mahal
More R&B
Stevie Wonder
and an old timer
Ray Charles

A special catagory for
The Funkadelics.

Best solo act
Bette Midler.
