7. Saw Muddy in 71 or 2 in CT. Wow
Muddy Waters said it, you know the blues got a soul
James Brown said it, you know the blues got a soul
Well the blues had a baby and they named the baby rock & roll

11. A bandmate and I used to ride Amtrak to Chicago from Milwaukee
when we were 15-16. We heard Junior Wells, Little Walter, Paul Butterfield when they would play the Old Town Clubs on N. Wells.

You had to be 23 to get into the clubs then-lol.

20. Actually my fondest musical experience was sitting in a New Year's
Eve set with Johnny Young and "Big" Walter Horton when I was around 17.

They traveled up to The Avant-Garde coffeehouse in Milwaukee for that and I hung out there.

It was incredible, even though Big was quite drunk!

Johnny was always a gentleman.

22. Wow! Did you ever get to see
Junior Wells & Buddy Guy playing together then? I saw Buddy in 1988, and he was tremendous, but I sure do wish I'd seen them together in the late '50's and '60's in Chicago.

24. I know I caught Junior Wells, but I couldn't get into The Purple Onion
so we hung out at the door, a couple of whiteboys from Milwaukee-we would listen and try to see the show.

It was a great time!

27. I saw Junior Wells about a year before he died...
Great show...Junior Wells, KoKo Taylor, and the Chicago Blues All-Stars, plus Buddy Guy and BB King. And I was 3 rows from the stage. One of the best concerts I've been to.

15. No, I have tried percussion and piano with him...
but no response. I do work with one kid who can sit at the piano and this quasi-Debussy just flows out of him. Absolutely fascinating.

17. Backwards - Sonny played the Harp
Guitarist Brownie McGhee is probably best remembered today as the longtime partner of harmonica player Sonny Terry. The duo are were major influences on the folk scene in the '50s and '60s, but McGhee was a tremendous guitarist and songwriter whose place in the American music scene is still not appreciated.

19. Don't forget
Big Walter "Shakey" Horton. Not only a superb harp master, but a great singer too.

Also, a little later on, James Cotton - didn't like his singing as much, but he could blow with the best (no sex thread, Robb).
