2. I've got an '89 Isuzu pick up that runs like a top
I've owned it for eight years and it has never let me down. All I've done to it is routine maintanence and I've replaced the starter.

A truck comes in handy, too.

Just my suggestion.

4. Get a 90 Honda Accord 4-door...
Should be able to get one cheap... I think it was one of the largest production runs ever of a single model. Mine was so well built, I bought it with almost 200,000 miles on it (a salesman car) and the interior was great, and the guy I bought it from had dropped in a new engine. I got close to 100,000 more out of it until my stepfather gave me a great deal on his '94 Accord... sold it BACK to the guy I bought it from for about 80% of what I paid for it. Thinking back, I'd rather have the 4-door. Hondas will go forever...

'til you throw at least another thousand in the hole.
Sink your money in it, and there you are
the owner of a 2000-dollar 1000 dollar car."

5. Cheapest is to buy through a classified, not from a dealer
But pay a mechanic you trust to look it over and tell you if it's in decent shape.

7. Let your loved ones know that you're hurting and looking...
I bought a car from my best friend's father, and I swear, that car has been a lifesaver. It's a '93 Chrysler Concorde and it runs like a top. It's got a 100,000 miles on it, and a car buff friend of mine said it'll probably be good for another 200,000 if I keep oil in it.
I never noticed the make before I had one, and now it seems like every sixth car I see is an old Concorde. I'd recommend this type car to anyone needing reliable transportation.

9. Sorry Jonathan
My friend JUST sold his 91 jeep for $2,500. Rebuilt engine...new brakes, new carpeting in interior....he had to move and fire-saled it. Only about 150 mile from you too.

10. Two years ago I bought a.......
1992 ford explorer w/ 170,000 miles on it for $3900. Bought it from the original owner who had spend about $5,000 in the previous year replacing brakes, cooling sys, AC, & tranny (he gave me all the receipts). I have V6 power and still get around 20mpg. No regrets at all.
