the retirement age is NOW? At what age does someone retire and start collecting Social Security?

2. Depends on your year of birth

1937 and earlier = 65
1938 = 65 + 2 months
increment the months by 2 until 1943
1943-1954 = 66
1955 = 66 + 2 months
increment the months by 2 until 1960
1960 = 67

on edit - there is more to it, but the dates and ages are for full retirement benefits

here goes the rest of it:

"To qualify for benefits, you carn "credits" through your work - up to four each year. This year, for example, you earn one credit for each $890 of wages or self-employment income.
