Any Petula Clark fans out there?
Petula Clark was part of the British Invasion, and I believe she was the most successful female singer to come out of said era.

There's just something so majestic and uplifting about her voice.

My faves include:

"Downtown" (natch)

"My Love"

"A Sign of the Times"

"I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" (For some reason, I always thought this song was about God)

3. Yes.
Loved her. Loved all the women of the British Invasion. Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw, Cilla Black...all of them.

How could I forget her? Her name was Lulu. (Another Brit girl singer that I really love-Marianne Faithful.)

5. Big Time
Yes, her music is so definitive of the 1960's. Besides the ones you list, I also love "I Know a Place".

10. Petula is a great singer, especially jazz.
Way back in the early 1960s I am certain I heard her do "The Acheson, Topeka and the Santa Fe," and it was just tbe best jazz singing I had ever heard (and I was a devotee of the genre). Has anyone else heard this? I've searched for years, but I've never been able to find it on any album of hers.

11. Oui, Bien Sûr!
Here, I though I was the only one left.

Happy to see I'm not.

Most of her catalogue is in French, which goes back to the 1950s -- she married Claude Wolff, head of Warner Brothers European A&R division. She had the original hits with what would become "I Will Follow Him" (Chariot), "He's A Fool" (Entre Nous, Il Est Fou), and "Sailor" (not a hit in the USA, though).

I also heard she replaced Julie Andrews on her tour after her disastrous throat operation.

Anyway, I thought that along with bands like The Association, the New Colony Six, and The Free Design, that she was a "guilty pleasure" that no one else had paid much attention to in 30 years. I'm glad to find out that I've been wrong about all of them!

15. There Are Worse Songs That Could Be Stuck In Your Head...
... I won't mention them though. Just keep singing "Downtown".

That song ALWAYS puts me in a happy mood.

14. Yep-been a fan since childhood
I saw her in the touring company of "Blood Brothers" with David Cassidy a few years back and she looked and sounded fantastic. My favorite song of hers is "Don't Sleep in the Subway".

16. "Colour My World!"
Try getting that one out of your head, 'specially the guitar riff!

:loveya: Pet,
dbt

Bonus points for knowing the correct pronunciation of her first name!

(PS: How about "Don't Sleep In The Subway?")

17. I love her. "THis is my song" is my favorite.
And the movie "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss" has this song (done in a very nice scene) and others in the movie.

Petula Clark was a great singer. Another nice song is "Who Am I?

Terry
