Will you help support my media reform blog? (crass begging family crisis)
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 02:08 PM by grasswire
I'm without any resources currently, and the sole support of a handicapped daughter. A disaster has struck us this week and I need to raise $500 by Sunday night in order to stay in our apartment. (Thanks for the great economy, George.)

The only thing I can think of to do is solicit donations for my work. So I'm turning to DUers to beg support for my blog and invest in a cause many of us consider critical.

I've committed myself to a cause -- a Peoples Bill of Rights for White House Transparency -- and have developed a blog to work toward that end.

I'm deeply involved in starting to push this, with the success of Bev Harris as my inspiration.

So many of us believe that the key to a turnaround in America is a free, independent, and accountable media. See below for my Bill of Rights. I think I've hit on an idea that can help change the White House correspondents.

Will you invest in the promotion of my Bill of Rights for White House Transparency? You know me. You see my tens of thousands of posts. You know I won't let you down and will fight for this as I have been fighting the VRWC for nearly a decade.

I already have gained the attention of The Washington Post, which linked to my blog in February. I'm getting positive feedback. This is the most important thing I've ever done in my life -- the work of liberty and democracy.

And you DU-ers who are struggling in this economy must know how difficult it is to ask for help. It's gut-wrenching, humiliating, horrible. But here we are. My daughter and I are gonna be out on the street, and the reality trumps pride.

I have a paypal address where contributions to my blog are accepted. webdems@aol.com.

The blog itself is at http://webdems.blogspot.com

Thanks, dear DU-ers.

1. here's the proposed Peoples Bill of Rights
The Peoples' Bill of Rights for White House Transparency (working title for a document in progress).

1. The White House Correspondents Association shall be the sole credentialing authority for entry to press events and briefings.

2. The president shall appear before the White House press corps for a regularly scheduled monthly conference of no less than two hours.

3. Questions will be asked of the president in an order to be determined by the White House Correspondents Association.

4. No questions will be submitted in advance to White House employees. No suggestions for questions will be communicated from the White House to reporters.

5. No credentialed members of the press will be denied access to any press event except by the decision of the White House Correspondents Association.

6. Members of the White House press shall not accept faxes, phone calls, e-mails or other communications from the political office of the WH, from political campaigns, from the RNC, the DNC, or lobbyists or other politics-based agents, unless the reporter has initiated the contact. Such entities may provide copy of any background material to a WHCA library where it will be available for reporters.

7. There shall be no contact between political advisors to the White House and reporters for the purpose of punishing members of the press for their coverage. If the White House has a complaint, it shall be made in writing by the press secretary and submitted to the White House Correspondents Association, with any remedy or admonishment to be made by the Association to the correspondent in question.

...I'm also going after this freeper who has WH credentials for some unfathomable reason. He is named on the subpoena list for the Plame investigation. I want to know why and how he gained credentials to WH briefings and who fed him the information about the secret document.

How is it that he gets access at the same time that correspondents from networks and newspapers are continually threatened with denial of access by the White House press office?
