The weekend is ending with my "gay family"...
I was trying to find the thread where I mentioned that we were having a weekend with my husband's family....

But it was over 24 hours ago, so I guess I have to post a new thread.

Anyway, I'm still new on these threads and it's safe, I think, so I'll continue the story, if y'all ain't sick of hearing gay stories.

Me and my husband have been together for 17 years. He was in a straight marriage and had a son. His son is nearly 30 now and has a wonderful wife and three kids.

Their kids and them came up for the weekend and we had a great time.

The oldest wanted to stay up late with me. I said "all I'm going to do is wash the dishes". But she wanted to stay up late and listen to music while I do dishes. Ain't that sweet?

We put on some "albums"...!!! Vinyl!

She's 8 1/2 and wanted to hear "electronic". We found some old vinyl electronic albums from waaay back before she was born in 1992! All the way that far back!!!! We listened to many albums, but she loved the obscure techno-house tracks on vinyl of "Blue Pearl -- Mother Dawn" especially Side One No.2 "Transritual Mix". I don't think I ever listened to it before and it sounded like some good progressive/house music of today. She started to dance the "robot" and said it made her want to dance that way.

Then it was just too late and she had to go to bed. And I told her "don't make this good evening end bad". She was starting to get grumpy and didn't want to go to bed. But she was tired and I picked her up and took her to her parents' room. Good night.

She's such a cool kid, and her parents are just tops!!!

I feel so lucky with my family.

No real marriage liscense in this state of Alabama, but we got powers of attorney when we first got married in a non-recognized ceremony. And other legal apparatus.

Just a glimpse into an ordinary gay household ...

THAT WON'T BE VOTING FOR THAT ODIOUS CHIMP!!!!!!!!!!!

love y'all

1. Welcome to DU barking_23!
Sorry I missed your earlier post. I'm sure it's still there, it may have simply fallen off the front page. Check the bottom right in any forum and you should see a list of pages. Additionally, you can bookmark your threads and check back on them later without having to search for them.

:hi:

Your family sounds wonderful. Hang in there, I'm certain we'll get full civil rights for all Americans before too long.

3. Thanks for the welcome LeftCoast
This forum moves much faster than any I've belonged to. I'm sure I can find my older posts, but it moves very fast.

I'm finding that I gravitate to this forum for many reasons, but mostly because everyone's so intelligent and nice.

And challenging as well.

I'm mostly apolitical, but this is a time to get involved. But frankly the gay marriage thing is really only a small part of the whole.

This administration is starting (and has been starting) to give me the freaking heeby-jeevies! Weirder than it's ever been.

I want my "grandkids" to grow up in a free country. And I see shit happening that makes me think we side-line folk have to get involved and if posting on DU is the beginning of that then so be it.

Good company!

2. Welcome
What a great story. Rather bittersweet, I imagine, since Bush and his minions would have us believe that yours is not a "real" family. Let me tell you this, though, I'd MUCH rather have you and your husband as neighbors than the religious fundies I currently have. I know good people when I meet 'em, and you're good people. Best of luck to ya!

10. Thanks, barking_23!
I enjoyed reading about your weekend, and your time with your -- dare I say it? -- granddaughter.

If DU were sick of hearing gay stories, I'd've been banned a long time ago.

12. Welcome to DU from another queer grandparent
My granddaughter is here with me today, working on her book of pictures. I am very, very lucky that she and her mother live in the same town as me, so I get to see them frequently.

I wish more people would realize that gays mostly lead very ordinary lives. Our families are much like other families. We have mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and so on, like anyone else.

Post all the queer topics you want as far as I'm concerned. I will probably be posting there. Anyone who doesn't like queer topics can always choose to hide them. For some of us, they are very important.
