What if the U.S. was no longer the global hegemon?
I had an interesting discussion with students the other day around a similar topic. An enormous part of our policy and action towards other nations and people is obviously constructed and acted upon from a perspective that seeks to maintain and preserve the singular position of global power for the U.S. As they often do, my students challenged this view and discussed the possible results of a declining empire for the U.S. (after all, the Romans were around for a loooong time, but we know what happened to them).

How would this affect the psyche of your average person? How well would/could we cope with the prospect of being directed, manipulated, or bullied by another nation?

1. I think we're soon to find out
when the big bust comes and the CEOs laughingly take their tax cut dollars stolen from Social Security, etc, and head overseas, leaving empty factories because everything has been outsourced.
