Hey, why don't they call themselves 'Kentucky Fried Chicken' anymore?
"KFC" is downright annoying.

I mean, it could stand for "kooky farting cattle" for all I know...

1. Wanted to get away from "fried".
Implies that it's unhealthy, or something. I think.

They use genetically modified chickens.

12. yes, and so is Kentucky Fried Chicken
it's just fried chicken. Kentucky has no more right to the title than Virginia or Tennessee does.

The chickens are from Kentucky, they're just FRIED overseas, but only in countries starting with the letter K.

18. "but only in countries starting with the letter K"
I don't understand what you mean. Do you mean that the chickens are fried only in countries starting with the letter K? If this is what you mean, please explain why such a strange policy for a fried chicken franchise.

20. such as Kuwait, Kenya, Kazakhstan....
That's actually the real reason they switched to "KFC." It wasn't possible to fry the chicken in Kentucky and keep it tasty while shipping it overseas, so now they just send the chicken to K countries and fry it there.

I agree it seems complicated, but such is the fried food industry. (And I've heard the Colonel doesn't have a very good head for business.)

4. Doing away with the Colonel
I think. Nobody remembers who the Col. (or that there is such a thing as a Kentucky Colonel) is anymore, so I think they're trying to move away from that.

I bet in another 6 mos his pic won't even be on the bucket.

7. There WAS a Colonel Sanders!
I met him in the 1970s when the PR company I worked for had the Chicago-area franchiser account. An extremely nice man, very courtly as one would expect of a Kentucky colonel.

23. I remember the Colonel!
The title was of the honorary sort bestowed on courtly Southern men of a certain age. I remember thinking that his face on the bucket, with that string tie, strangely resembled a drumstick. I remember when there were giant buckets, lit from within, turning on poles out in front of all the stores. I remember when the only sides they had were cole slaw & mashed potatoes, and when the gravy was real gravy and had crunchy bits from the chicken skin in it.

Those were the days.

15. hehe - they're neither called KFC, nor "Kentucky fried chicken" here
For some reason, probably the similar pronunciation, the fast-food chain is referred to as "Kentucky schreit ficken". ("Kentucky screams ...") . A meme promoted by the late (as in : "dead") German Saturday night live show.

19. You read my mind!
I've been wondering about the very same thing! What's up with the new name? Is it a new name or just the current advertising campaign? I mean have they removed the name from everything or does it all have just 'KFC' now?

My assumption was that "Kitchen" and "Fresh" just sound so much healthier than "Fried." Like when they removed the word "Sugar" from all the cereal names a couple of decades ago. I wonder if they can get in trouble for false advertising. No way is that crap fresh.
