Un-PC thread: Who played "smear the queer" as a kid?
It was a free flowing game of football where you had to avoid EVERYONE on the playground from tackling you........and you did have to got to the ground. We played after getting off the bus with anything that was available: a comb, a little football, a wad of paper, etc.

I was awesome at it, until puberty hit and my foot speed went away.

Hovering over the object was like a rubgy scrum at elbow length. Whoever picked it up was fair game.

Thank god for Toughskins.

This may explain the lack of Gale Sawyers-esque open field running now-a-days.

1. I did...it was fun.
But I never knew what the name meant until my later teenage years.

5. good old days
Lived in a "natural" desert neighborhood in Tempe, AZ. Only one family had a little patch of grass completely surrounded by tangerine trees that were full of thorns - we played there lots of evenings. Never bothered about the name - good rough game kids these days would never be allowed to play!

6. I did until a career ending injury
Got a compound finger fracture when I tackled my brother while playing in the church yard after Sunday school. I never really got the passion for the game back after that.

7. Smear the queer, pigslaughter...we had one other name for it
but i've forgotten it from grade school. We played it all winter, when the yard and playground got all covered in ice. now that was fun.

9. Best game ever!
You learned one of two things: to take a hit, or to run like hell.

Smear the Queer is life, man.

10. The worst part was once you got past them you had to turn around
You never actually scored and you never were done......until you were done.

11. Why not be more accurate?
The game should really have been called "Chase, catch, tackle and dogpile on the kid with the ball". That's a bit wordy, though. :D

I still can't believe I made it through childhood with no broken bones.

12. NO wonder girls wanted nothing to do with us
Walking into homeroom dirty, sweating, possibly bleeding, and our motors running at 100 MPH.

Man did I have some moves back then.

14. I was fast but a pretty easy tackle
Until my mid 20s then it took 3 or 4 to bring me down. The best game ever too I think.

20. Up until I hurt my shoulder
The poor guy that he is, I even broke my friend's nose one time playing it. Combine a 4.5 second 40 with brass knuckles for bones and that's what happens.

I'm damn lucky I never broke any bones. But it is great exercise cause you can't stop running until you're brought down.

17. Probably the same-it has been officially renamed
http://www.thewiredpress.com/archives/briefs/smearqueer.html

Council votes to rename "Smear the Queer"

The ISTQ council voted today to rename one of America's favorite pastimes."Smear the Queer," an incredibly fun game in which hordes chase down and tackle any person who has the ball, has been around since the gay old days of this country. The game, which involves manhandling your opponent and wrestling them to the ground, hasn't changed much throughout the years.

"We were concerned that the game's name may be insensitive to those who are Queer. We don't want our children to grow up thinking it is okay to smear a Queer. Queers deserve the same amount of respect as the rest of us."

The council voted on "Smear the Tranny" since the transgendered community has yet to become a force to reckon with.

19. I did
many, many years ago, but we also called it "keep away." We always used footballs, nerf footballs preferred.
