"Peak Cheese" real or myth?
Is the worlds supply of cheese coming to an end? i heard the adkins diet has really put a strain on the dairy industry, and the poor holsteins are experiencing udder fatigue in an effort to keep the milk flowing.

a world without cheese, the horrors!

Folks, mhr has the goods on peak oil. I'm still wading thru all the links he has provided, thanks sir! I was worried that some would take offense to mocking a real serious and interesting issue, But heh, its Sunday afternoon in the lounge.

I'm having a shrub moment, whats CJD?

9. CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) = Mad Cow Disease in Humans
I couldn't resist using "udder failure" and * in the same sentence.

3. Some truth to it
At least in Europe, and thus not caused by Atkins, the number of cheeses is declining. Many small, local dairies were unable to survive in modern times.
On the other hand the number of cheeses available is rising: was it necessary to travel to the actual region to get a specific cheese, the chances to find it in a better supermarket (yes, even one of those awful German supermarkets) have increased dramatically in the past few years.
At the same time many small farms have started to produce their own cheese - lacking tradition, but producing edible - sometimes even good - results.

6. Monolithic corporate cheese-dont get me started!
That really gets my goat! I mean the milking cows are exploited ruthlessly by the man. The results are bland. And processed cheese is a corporate fascist criminal nitrate plot!

8. agreed
And it is one of the few positive developments that cheese made by different small to mid-sized diaries is marketed under one society-label.

As for the milk: I've lived on a farm in Burgundy for a few weeks, and although it wasn't organic, the cows looked well.

They had a very interesting stable: it was open, so that they could enter or exit any time they wanted to do so. They even decided themselves when to get milked - by a no-human-needed machine, with classical music playing. From my understanding that type of stable is currently heavily subsided by the EU.
