Most recent car repair?
I had to get the windshield fixed after a truck kicked up a rock on it.
I also recently replaced the brakes.

3. Not really a repair per se
but I recently had the 16-year-old timing belt on my Toyota replaced.

20. Sorry about the ambiguity
I was referring to my own car, which has been puttering along without any major problems since I rescued it from the scrap heap 8 years ago:hi:

4. A very expensive one...
My radiator broke in some strange way, sending radiator fluid into the transmission and vice versa.

They replaced the transmission and the radiator. It was not cheap.

On the good side, it runs amazingly well now.

I'm having my motor mounts replaced as well as having some throttle body and fuel injector service.

$$$$$ Sigh - beats having a payment though.

6. 'rear wheel speed sensor'
seems to be an important one, since when it out the speedometer went haywire, the auto, tranny wouldn't shift correctly, and the dashboard was lit up like a xmas tree.

10. Replaced the motor mounts...
Weird, the car was throwing and leaking oil and I had that sickning feeling of doom and gloom and the vision of a big bucks car repair bill on a limited budget until I noticed the drop of the engine had cut the oil filter on the frame of the car. Still, I'm to old to play shadetree mechanic so it cost two-hundred dollars to have it repaired.

11. Tire repaired on the minivan
I suspect a new battery again soon for the car. It's 10 years old and without an automatic shutoff (or noise) for the headlights. If Mr Belle turns them on during the day for rain, fog, etc., he NEVER remembers to turn it off and kills the battery so it has to be jumped.

A month ago, it was a brake job to the tune of $275. Ah, the joys of owning a 17-year-old car! :eyes:

15. My car...
Edited on Sun Mar-14-04 09:40 PM by 1monster
New brakes, new compressor, new flashers for the turn signals.

My husband's car? Needs a new engine, we are told.

He took the car back to the dealership the day after he bought it just over two years ago and told them that the oil pressure was too low... They said they checked it over and the oil pressure was fine.

Now, no longer under warranty, they tell us that the engine was so seriously damaged by low oil pressure that it needs to be replaced (at a cost of $5,500 for a new engine, $4,500 for a rebuilt engine, and $3,500 for a used engine with 35,000 miles on it).

And they have no record of his taking the car back to them for a check due to low oil pressure.

That was the third car he bought from them. And, as far as I'm concerned, the last one.

(I went there to buy a new Geo about ten years ago. The salesman directed me to a "program car"... a leased car that was now back for sale... and offered it to me for $8,500. The same car sold in the next city up the coast for $6,500 Brand Spanking New.) Grrrr! :evilfrown:  :grr:

on edit: I wasn't dumb enough to fall for that. I didn't buy it!

16. Alternator
I have a 1985 Tercel wagon and the voltage regulator is on the outside. It was the second alternator in 4 years, so I guess the externals don't last as long. I kept the warranty paperwork this time.

19. actually just two weeks ago...
and my car is a little over three years old. The 'malfunction' light went on. Took it to the thief, I mean dealer. They said bad gas cap, thermostat was sticking, and a bearing seal went bad, causing a bearing to go. Just short of $500.00 It is odd the way these things work out. Two months ago, I paid the thing off, and now I am having 'issues'. I wonder if the gas cap went bad causing the 'malfunction' light to go on, and they threw the other things in for good measure. Plus, it was two days before my 32 birthday, kinda an early present I suppose...Kevin.

23. None with this car, knock on wood
it's still fairly new (2002) and I picked this model for its reliable reputation, so hopefully it will be some time before it needs anything. Although I'm skeptical about the clutch - it seems a bit touchy for such low mileage.

24. Bumper
Bent it badly running into a road bank (in too much of a hurry in the snow)

Went home, wrapped one end of log chain around bumper, other end around tree, dropped it into reverse a couple of times and pulled it back out. Cost: $0.00 It is great having a 16 year old beater.
