My dog is SOOOOOO stupid
Actually both of them are. They usually stay in the back yard, but come in when the weather is bad. I had just installed a new glass door on the front door, and when I let them in, the Black Lab (LUCY) heads straight for the front door and slams NOSE FIRST into the glass. Before I could even react with laughter/shock/concern the Cocker (MAX) does the exact same damn thing. Both dogs were fine, and I had a great laugh.

1. That's very cute
When we watch nature shows, Wendy (Lab, Kelpie mix) attacks the T.V. and licks the screen. Dried dog saliva is hard to clean.

4. I had a black lab
and she wasn't very bright. In fact, I think she was borderline puppy retarded. She was dumber than a sack of rocks, but the sweetest thing I've ever met.

Maybe black labs aren't very bright as a breed. With exceptions of course.

5. Mine's dumb too
He has a 50 word vocabulary, but he's taken out my parents' screen door about ten times.

He's also afraid of vacuum cleaners and skateboards.

7. A friend of mine has a bassett hound that I nominate for Dumbest Dog. . .
It seems that Levi (as in Levi Strauss), spent a lot of time with her father's dog, who had chronic ear infections. My friend noticed one day that Levi was shaking his head a lot like he had an ear infection too. She rushed him to the vet who told her that there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. But did tell her that obviously Levi had watched her Dad's dog and figured that constant head shaking was something he needed to do too. On the way home she told him, "Oh, so I guess if the other dogs were jumping off the roof of their dog houses, you'd do it too!"

9. My Blue did that with my new steel mesh front door. Optical illusion,
she couldn't 'see' it when it was installed... She barrelled head first into it, in her GLEE to escape... and did the BIG sit plop and you could almost see the starts circling over her head.

10. Dave Barry tells the story of the exact opposite problem...
...after Hurricane Andrew tore off his screened-in porch (a lanai, in Florida, IIRC) and left ONLY the doorway and door intact.

The dogs (Earnest and emergency back-up dog Zippy) would go out on the porch, sit in front of this doorway, and wait for him to open it so they could go "outside".

True or not, it's an hilarious story. Some of Dave's best work is about idiotic dog behavior. :D

11. I remember my Chihuahua, Pedro, that I had as a teenager,
used to have to take a running start to jump up onto my mother's bed. Well, one time he took his running start, but apparently forgot to jump, and ran full-tilt-boogie into the footboard. BONK! He backed off, shaking his head, and sat there looking pissed for several minutes before wandering off to look for the butterflies and stars that were circling his head.
