Gosh that was a lot of change. It took forever for the machine to count it all.

And those machines are way too loud when the change is clanging through them.

1. How much would you have if you'd counted it yourself?
Don't they charge almost 9%?

If so, then you would've had $225.27.

3. you are right...
essentially, they are just another means to exploit the poor and those that do not have access to conventional financial services.

as are:
pawn shops
check cashing bodegas
2nd tier home loans
so called "pay-day loans"
turn-on fees for utilities

etc etc etc

4. I'm lucky. My credit union has a coin counting machine of its own.
I can get my coins counted for free. :-) In fact, last time I too coins rolled, they unrolled them and stuck them in the machine.

5. CoinStar is the best, Can you imagine ROLLING all of that change?
I've taken my coffee can of change to the CoinStar at my local Dominicks and have gotten back $40 - $50. Perfect for grocery shopping!

Congratulations on your haul!

:-)

7. I wrap the quarters and dimes myself
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 06:42 PM by geniph
Last year, we used them to finance our trip to Reno. It's amazing how much quarters add up if you save all of them. I send the pennies and nickels through the Coinstar machine - they're not worth the trouble to wrap. I don't mind paying the 8% on pennies and nickels, but I draw the line at dimes and quarters.
